Right-to-work checks now reach beyond traditional employment. Is your business ready?

From 1 October 2026, the expanded scheme covers additional working arrangements, including worker contracts, individual subcontractors and certain online matching services.

For businesses using these arrangements, it’s time to review who carries out the checks, how responsibilities are reflected in contracts and where supporting evidence is kept.

Contact the PAYG team to discuss what the changes mean for your workforce processes.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) rules have changed.

From 6 April 2026, eligible employees can receive SSP from their first day of absence, following the removal of the previous waiting period.

The changes also widen eligibility, meaning more employees — including some lower-paid workers — may now qualify for SSP.

For employers, understanding these changes is important to ensure payroll processes, policies, and employee communications remain up to date and compliant.

If you're unsure how these updates may affect your business, our team is here to help.

Many eligible UK businesses may still be able to reduce their National Insurance costs through the Employment Allowance scheme.

For the 2026/27 tax year, eligible employers can claim up to £10,500 in Employment Allowance, helping to offset employer National Insurance contributions and reduce payroll costs.

Key points:
• Up to £10,500 allowance available
• Helps reduce employer NIC costs
• Available to eligible businesses
• Can provide valuable payroll savings throughout the tax year

If you're unsure whether your business qualifies, it may be worth reviewing your eligibility and ensuring you're making full use of the support available.
