Sometimes you need someone to help you out of the hole.

We had a great 10-minute presentation from Sean at this morning’s BoB Connections Tonbridge meeting, talking about something that will probably resonate with a lot of business owners: the value of having an accountant who actually gets to know you and your business.

Good accountancy isn’t just about preparing a set of accounts or submitting a tax return once a year.

It’s about having someone who understands how your business operates, knows what you’re trying to achieve and can help take some of the stress out of the day-to-day financial responsibilities, as well as making sure those all-important tax and filing deadlines are dealt with.

Sean also made a brilliant analogy about businesses that find themselves struggling.

If you’re 5ft 7in tall and standing at the bottom of a 12ft hole, you’re probably not getting out on your own!

The same can happen in business. Problems can build up, bookkeeping gets behind, tax obligations are missed or cash flow becomes difficult. Sometimes the most important thing is recognising when you need someone outside the business to help you find a way forward.

That’s where having a trusted accountant who already understands you and your business can make such a difference.

Another really useful 10 minutes and a good discussion at BoB Connections Tonbridge this morning.

We meet every other Wednesday at the Vauxhall Inn in Tonbridge, bringing together local business owners and professionals to build relationships, share knowledge and, of course, enjoy a bit of breakfast networking.

If you run a local business and fancy coming along to see what BoB is all about, you’d be very welcome.
