HMRC has launched a consultation on 'timely payments' that could shake up how millions pay their tax.
This means individuals in Self-Assessment who also have PAYE income could be moved away from traditional January and July deadlines. Instead, estimated tax on side-income or rental properties will be deducted directly from wages throughout the year via payroll.
The change may be introduced in April 2029.

With the HMRC ISA changes taking effect on 6 April 2027, now is a good time to keep these upcoming rules on your radar as you manage your money:

Cash ISA allowance cap: The annual tax-free Cash ISA limit for under-65s will drop from £20,000 to £12,000 (though the overall £20,000 total ISA allowance remains unchanged).

Uninvested cash tax charge: A flat 22% tax charge will apply to interest earned on uninvested cash held within Stocks & Shares ISAs.

Transfer limits: One-way restriction - transfers from Stocks & Shares ISAs back into Cash ISAs will no longer be permitted for under-65s.

As a reminder, the temporary 5% reduced VAT rate applies up to and including 1 September 2026. Businesses will revert to the standard 20% VAT rate at midnight on 2 September 2026.

Here is a quick checklist to ensure a seamless transition for your systems:

* Update POS & Software: Schedule your accounting software, tills, and invoicing systems to switch back to 20% starting 2 September.

* Review Price Lists: Double-check menu prices, tags, and online ticketing listings to prevent billing errors on or after 2 September.

* Audit Contracts & Advance Bookings: Ensure supplies, services, or events taking place after 1 September have the standard rate correctly applied.
