Kelly’s Corner: Business mileage update 🚗

If you use your own car or van for work, the approved mileage rate has increased from 45p to 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles. The rate remains 25p per mile after that.

This may apply to employees, directors and self-employed individuals who use their own vehicle for qualifying business journeys. It can also be backdated to 6th April 2026.

Before making a claim, make sure you have:
• a mileage log
• the date of each journey
• the business purpose
• the number of miles travelled

Remember, ordinary commuting does not usually count as business mileage.

A great afternoon at Ravenscliffe Event Space, Porthill, for a cyber security event hosted by Hobb Computer Services Ltd and Object First ☕🔐

With ransomware attacks capable of bringing businesses to a halt for weeks in a worst-case scenario, it was a timely and eye-opening discussion on resilience, immutable backups, and planning for recovery – not just prevention.

Add in a lovely tapas-style lunch and a raffle win (congrats to Steve, our Office Manager, on the LEGO Technic Ferrari 🏎️👏), and it made for a brilliant event all round.
