💬 Financial jargon!

Running a business sometimes feels like you need to speak a completely different language when it comes to your finances. 🤯

So, let's translate some of the jargon into plain English…

📈 Gross Profit
What you’ve made from selling your products or services, minus the direct costs of providing them.

💰 Net Profit
What’s left after you’ve paid all your business expenses. This is the number that really tells you whether your business is making money.

💸 Cash Flow
Money coming in and money going out. And remember… profit doesn't pay the bills if the cash isn't in the bank! 👀

🙋‍♀️ Debtors
People who owe you money.

📬 Creditors
People you owe money to.

📅 Accruals
Costs your business has incurred, but you haven't received the invoice or paid them yet.

⏰ Prepayments
When you've paid for something upfront, but the cost relates to a future period.

📊 Management Accounts
Regular reports that show you how your business is performing — so you can make decisions based on what’s happening now, rather than waiting until your year end.

❤️ Understanding your numbers
Because your accounts aren't just there for HMRC. They're there to help you run your business.

Financial literacy doesn't mean knowing every piece of accounting jargon. It means understanding what your numbers are telling you.

After some encouragement (and maybe just a little persuasion from Hayley and the team... 😉), Claire took on the Xerocon slide!

It's been an incredible couple of days packed with exciting announcements, inspiring sessions and plenty of ideas that we're looking forward to bringing back to the office.

Now it's time to digest everything we've learned and start putting those ideas into practice to help us continue delivering the very best for our clients.

🚀 Day 2 at Xerocon 2026!

Wow... there is so much to take away and digest!

The AI developments alone have been incredible, and there are some absolutely huge updates on the horizon that we're really excited to embrace. Once we've had chance to process everything, we'll be sharing our favourite announcements and what they mean for our clients.

Attending our 4th Xerocon this week has really reinforced how pleased we are that we made the decision to become a Xero-only practice when we started the business 11 years ago.

The investment and pace of innovation in the software is clear to see. It's exciting to watch Xero continue to develop tools that make finance processes faster, more accurate and more streamlined—freeing up more time for us to provide valuable insights and help our clients make informed business decisions.

Now for the biggest question in the office...
