Do any of these sound familiar? šŸ¤”

When it comes to investing, it’s common to feel like you need to earn more, know more, or be completely comfortable with risk before you can even think about getting started.

But investing doesn’t have to mean having a large amount of money or figuring everything out on your own.

Starting with what you can afford and giving your money more time to potentially grow can be more important than waiting for the ā€˜perfect time’. And while investing will always involve risk, understanding how much risk you’re comfortable taking and how much you can afford to take is an important part of building an investment strategy that’s right for you šŸ“ˆ

Investments are typically used for money that isn’t needed for everyday living or emergencies, and their value can rise and fall over time and you may get back less than you invested. Many people invest for the longer term because investments have historically offered higher long term returns than cash savings — but outcomes will always depend on time, markets and individual circumstances.

Even if you don’t have children, your income may still play an important role in supporting your household or maintaining your current lifestyle šŸ”

Life insurance can help provide financial support for the people who depend on you when you pass. It may help with ongoing household costs, mortgage repayments, debts or other financial pressure on your loved ones during an already difficult time.

You might want to consider cover if you have:

šŸ  A mortgage
ā¤ļø A partner who relies on your income
šŸ¤ Joint financial commitments
šŸ‘„ Other people who depend on you financially
šŸ›”ļø A family home or other assets you’d want to protect

The right level of protection will depend on your individual circumstances, financial commitments and the people who rely on you.

Please note that most life insurance plans do not have a cash-in value and will stop if payments to them cease āš ļø

When money feels overwhelming šŸ’šŸ’·

Financial worries can sometimes lead to avoidance, making challenges feel even bigger. Taking small, manageable steps can help bring back a sense of control.

šŸ”Ž Understand your position – start by looking at your income, spending, debts, savings and investments. Understanding the facts can help you identify what genuinely needs your attention.

šŸŽÆ Pick a priority – you don’t need to tackle everything at once. Decide what needs dealing with now and what can wait. One small meaningful action can make things feel much more manageable.

šŸ“… Build a routine – regularly reviewing your finances can reduce avoidance and build confidence over time. Where possible, work towards an emergency fund that could cover 3 to 6 months of spending.

šŸ¤ Seek support – talking to someone you trust, a debt charity or a financial adviser can provide guidance and reassurance. If money worries are affecting your mental health, consider seeking professional support too.

Feelings of anxiety can make you want to solve everything at once, but this isn’t always the best approach. Financial resilience comes from slowing down, understanding your situation and taking manageable steps forward. A clear plan can help you focus on what matters most, separate priorities from what can wait, and take consistent steps to regain a sense of control.

This is a question many people don’t think about until it’s too lateā³

Inheritance Tax (IHT) is a tax that can be charged on the value of your estate when you pass. Including things like your home, savings and investments.

The standard IHT rate is currently 40%, but that doesn’t mean 40% of everything you own is automatically taxed. There are tax free allowances and exemptions that can reduce or even eliminate the amount of IHT due. Your family home and certain gifts can also affect the calculation.

The standard Nil Rate Band is currently £325,000. There may also be an additional allowance if you leave your home to certain direct descendants.

The important thing is to understand your position before you need to. A little planning could make a significant difference to what you’re able to pass on to the people you care about ā¤ļø

Sound familiar? šŸ‘€

As your income grows, your lifestyle and outgoings often grow with it. Before you know it, the extra money you’re earning doesn’t feel quite so extra.

That’s where having a financial plan can help. Understanding where your money is going, what you’re working towards, and whether you’re making the most of your income can make a real difference.

Earning more is great, but making that money work towards your future is even better ✨

Why? šŸ¤”

Inflation can reduce your spending power. If the cost of living rises faster than your savings grow, your money may buy less in the future.

For example: Ā£10,000 today could have significantly less spending power in 10 or 20 yearsā³šŸ’°

The key is balance - you may want cash for emergencies and short-term spending, while investments could be considered longer term goals.

It is common for the value of Equities (and Stocks and Shares ISAs) to rise and fall over time. Cash savings are more stable day to day, but their real value can be reduced by inflation over the long term. Many people therefore combine cash and investments to balance short term stability with the potential for better long-term growth, recognising that investment returns are never guaranteed and investors could get back less than the amount invested.
