I don't teach jewellery making very often, but I enjoy it when I do. These lovely ladies had their lessons bought by Dad for Mum's birthday.

We had a lot of fun and both ladies went home with their own piece of unique hand made jewellery that they'd made themselves. I think they did really well! 😁

I just love the days when jewellery comes back from the assay office.

These need a final polish / colouring / stone setting etc. then they'll go out into the shop.

I'll post photos before they do go out, incase anyone wants first dibs 😆

This little art glass bottle is really pretty. It's quite hard to read what the lettering on the bottom of the bottle says though. So - a quick pencil and paper 'brass style' rubbing (I used a sticky label so that it didn't move) made it much easier. Obviously, this only works if the lettering is either proud from the base, or indented.

Please also remember that sticky labels can pull paint off vintage or antique pieces (hence some of the gold detailing missing from from the bottle, where someone else put a sticky label).

Now I know it says MOD.DEP 32 on the bottom of the bottle. This means modello depositato, which translates to 'registered design'. So, this is a hand blown, hand painted Italian art glass perfume bottle, most probably mid century.

I have quite a few odd / single hoop earrings. Some are very simple, some are more decorative. I was thinking of offering unmatched pairs or maybe just selling them as single ones.

What do you think? Will they sell or should I just melt them down?

It's nice to be able to 'give back'. I realise that with many business being cut to the wire, it's not always possible to provide work experience places. But we're both 'retired' and our shop isn't mad busy, so it's something that we can do.

[For anyone who doesn't know, pupils in year 10 (age 14 - 15) in the UK have 1 week of work experience built into their curriculum.]

Anyway, this week's youngster had a go at everything we asked of him. He's spent time on the shop floor, in the workshop and researching / posting on Etsy.

With old pieces it's difficult to tell what kind of solder it was originally constructed with.

I did take advice from my jeweller friend on this one, and he agreed that the method I wanted to use was the safest.

It's possible that I didn't need to take such precautions, but when it's someone elses jewellery, you can't take chances.

Since retiring I've rediscovered a love of jigsaws. These Wasgi destiny puzzles are my favourites, as the finished jigsaw does not match the picture on the box.

This one 'High Street Hassle' was excellent, as practically nothing matched. Having to remember and recognise colours and patterns to complete it must be good for my brain, as well as fun.

It is slightly strange though, after all that time and effort, taking it apart and putting it back in the box. This way, in the future, I'll be able to enjoy doing it all over again. 😁
