๐ The UK's tax gap has grown to ยฃ59.2 billion. What does this mean for businesses?
HMRC's latest figures show that the difference between the tax expected to be paid and the amount actually collected has increased to 6.4% for the 2024โ25 tax year.
One of the biggest contributors? Small businesses, which accounted for 62% of the tax gap, with unpaid Corporation Tax making up a significant proportion.
The report also highlights that the tax gap is often caused by:
โ๏ธ Errors
โ๏ธ Failure to take reasonable care
โ๏ธ Tax evasion
While most businesses want to get their tax right, these figures demonstrate the importance of keeping accurate records, understanding your obligations and seeking professional advice when needed.
Getting your tax affairs in order not only helps you stay compliant but can also provide peace of mind and reduce the risk of costly mistakes.

๐จ HMRC is increasing its focus on tackling tax evasion.
New figures reveal that HMRC paid out ยฃ1.4 million to whistleblowers in the 2025โ26 tax year, following a record 170,992 reports of suspected tax fraud and evasion.
Under the strengthened reward scheme, eligible informants could receive 15% to 30% of the additional tax recovered in cases where HMRC collects more than ยฃ1.5 million.
The figures also highlight that small businesses account for the largest share of the UK's tax gap, reinforcing the importance of maintaining accurate records and staying compliant with your tax obligations.
If you're unsure whether your business is meeting its tax responsibilities or need advice on staying compliant, don't leave it to chance.

๐ Understanding Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)
Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) are designed to protect a business's legitimate confidential information and can form part of an employment contract.
However, it's important for employers to understand their limits.
โ๏ธ According to ACAS, an NDA cannot be used to prevent employees from reporting workplace harassment, discrimination or certain criminal activity. Any agreement attempting to do so is legally unenforceable.
As employment law continues to evolve, businesses should ensure their contracts and workplace policies remain compliant and reflect current best practice.
The ACAS guidelines can be found at http://www.acas.org.uk/non-disclosure-agreements
