Payroll question for you this National Payroll Week: do you actually know what happens if you get it wrong?
Late or incorrect pay isn't just an admin headache. It's one of the fastest ways to lose trust with your team. Wrong tax code, missed pension contribution, a new starter paid late in their first month… small mistakes, big impact on how safe people feel working for you.
That's the bit that doesn't get talked about enough. Payroll isn't really about the numbers. It's about whether your team can rely on you.
If you're not 100% sure your payroll is watertight, that's worth a conversation. Not because something's necessarily wrong, but because "probably fine" isn't good enough when it's someone's pay packet.

January gets all the credit for fresh starts, but let's be honest, it arrives in the dark and everyone's skint after Christmas.
September's the real one. Term starts, routines come back, and you've actually got the headspace to sort your business finances properly.
Our blog is a good pace to start.

Reasons to love September:
Kids back at school
Routines are back
You've actually got a bit of headspace
Three things to sort ready for the new term:
- Invoicing: pick one day a week
- Numbers: 20 minutes, once a month, cup of tea
- Tax: move a bit aside each month, no more nasty surprises
That's it. Not a big overhaul. Just three small habits before Christmas.

If you got into business because you're good at your actual trade, not because you love spreadsheets, the numbers bit was never going to be your favourite.
Our blog's got a simple way to get on top of it, or come chat to us.
