If you’re self-employed or a director of a limited company, there’s not to much time left — just a little over two months to submit your Self Assessment tax return. The deadline is 31 January 2026. I’m reminding you now because every year it’s the same story — everyone wakes up in January with the stress, rush and panic. During that time, accounting offices are literally overloaded with clients, and finding an accountant at the last minute can be almost impossible. If you’re planning to switch to a new accountant, remember that HMRC requires authorisation, and this process takes a few days. Plus, the closer we get to the deadline, the longer it can take to receive the authorisation code by post. Do it now then, while there’s still enough time. If you need help, send me a message or leave a comment below. And for more accounting tips, follow this profile!

Tomorrow, 18 November 2025, is the deadline for every limited company director to verify their identity with Companies House using a valid photo ID. If you fail to do so, you won’t be able to submit your company’s required documents or accounts, and you could even lose your right to act as a director and face a financial penalty. This is a new legal requirement introduced to increase security and prevent fraud within Companies House. New directors will need to provide their personal details at the stage of setting up a limited company, while existing directors must complete the verification before filing their next confirmation statement. The process is quite simple, but if you need help — send me a message or leave a comment.

Key dates for Self Employed📅

If you are self-employed, remember a few key dates that can help you avoid unnecessary penalties and stress. First, by 31st July, you must make your second payment on account. This important deadline helps spread your tax burden throughout the year.

If you started your business in April, you have until 30th October to register your business as self-employed. Timely registration is crucial to ensure your tax obligations are correctly calculated from the start of your business.

By 31st December, you should file your Self Assessment, especially if you have additional income taxed through PAYE. This way, you can ask HMRC to collect any underpaid tax for the current year through your PAYE system in the next tax year. This convenient option can help manage your payments more easily.

The final deadline for filing your Self Assessment and paying your tax is 31st January. Missing this deadline can result in additional costs and penalties. Therefore, it's essential to submit your tax return and make your payment on time.

Good financial education is fundamental to understanding and managing our money.

It allows us to make informed financial decisions, plan for the future, and avoid unnecessary debt. In personal life, solid financial knowledge helps in better managing household budgets, saving for the future, and investing.

Control over the household budget, skillful saving, and conscious use of loans and credit cards are just some of the benefits that come from good financial education. Moreover, it also allows for proper retirement planning and financial security for the future.

For business owners, financial education is invaluable. It enables better management of company finances, cost optimization, and increased profits. With solid financial knowledge, entrepreneurs can make more informed business decisions, better plan taxes, and effectively manage tax obligations. Financial analysis and forecasting become essential tools that help increase the company's value through investment in growth and expansion.

To effectively manage finances, it is worth knowing the basics of accounting, being able to create and control a budget, and understanding various financial instruments and investment strategies. Tax planning and the ability to interpret financial indicators are crucial for success both in private and professional life. Therefore, it is important to continuously expand financial knowledge through online courses, specialized studies, professional certifications, and regular reading of professional literature.

Collaborating with experienced specialists, participating in conferences, and workshops can also be extremely valuable.

What are your thoughts on financial education? Let us know!

📈 Growth in Sales Can Deepen Financial Problems: What to Watch Out For? 📉

Increasing sales is a goal for many businesses, but rapid growth can sometimes exacerbate financial issues. How can you prevent this?

🔹 Profitability: It's important that each sale is profitable. Low margins can quickly negate the benefits of higher turnover.

🔹 Growth Rate: Too rapid growth can lead to cash flow problems. Ensure you have the necessary resources to serve a larger number of clients.

🔹 Investments: Investments in growth are necessary, but they must be well-thought-out. Analyze which expenses are essential and which can be postponed.

🔹 Unplanned Expenses: Avoid hasty financial decisions. Control your budget and plan ahead to avoid unnecessary costs.

Remember, healthy business growth is based on a balance between expansion and financial control. If you need help managing your company's finances, contact our accounting firm. We are here to support your success! 💼📊

3. What are the CIS tax rates? The standard tax rate is 20% for registered subcontractors and 30% for unregistered ones.

4. How can I register for CIS? Registration is simple and can be done online through the HMRC website or by phone.

5. Do I need to issue invoices with CIS tax deductions? Yes, subcontractors must issue invoices that reflect the deducted CIS tax so that main contractors can correctly remit the tax to HMRC.
