One of the biggest mistakes people make with investing is comparing their portfolio to someone else’s.
What feels like a sensible level of investment risk to one person might feel completely uncomfortable to another.
Your financial plan should reflect:
• Your goals
• Your timeframes
• Your income and lifestyle
• How comfortable you are with market ups and downs
There’s no such thing as a perfect investment strategy for everyone.
The right plan is the one that helps you stay on track without panicking every time the market moves.

How much will you have to live on when you stop working?
Most people have no idea. Not because they don't care, but because pensions are dull and retirement feels a long way off.
We have put together a guide to working it out for yourself, plus a free spreadsheet to fill in.
To complete it, you will need three things:
1. Your State Pension forecast from GOV.UK
2. A list of every pension you have ever paid into
3. A rough idea of what a year of your life costs
It will not tell you everything. For example, it does not work out your tax, it does not know how long you will live, and it says nothing about whether your pensions are invested sensibly.
But you will finish with a figure for what is coming in and a figure for what is going out - which is more than most can say.

“Should I just leave my money in cash?”
This is one of the most common questions we hear, so here is our take.
Cash absolutely has its place for:
✔ Emergency savings
✔ Short-term spending plans
✔ Financial security
But (there's always a but) over longer periods, cash can struggle to keep pace with inflation which means its real-world spending power reduces over time.
That’s why investing isn’t just about growing wealth, it’s often about helping your money maintain its value and support your future lifestyle goals.
Every situation is different, so getting personalised financial advice is really important. There is no one-size-fits-all approach.

We're pleased to welcome George Ramsden to the team as our new Lifestyle Financial Planner.
George has been in financial services since 1999, with a career that's taken him through advice, compliance, and senior management at a large regional firm.
His approach is simple. Take the time to understand someone's life and what they're working towards, then make sure the plan actually fits that, not the other way round.
It mirrors our own approach at Fox Lifestyle, which is a big part of why we wanted George on the team.
Welcome to Fox Lifestyle, George. 🦊

A lot of people think investment risk is simply about “how much money could I lose?”
But there’s another side to it.
Taking too little risk can also create problems over time - especially when inflation quietly reduces the spending power of cash sitting in savings accounts.
That’s why financial planning isn’t about choosing the “highest return” or the “safest option”.
It’s about finding the right balance for your goals, your timeframe, and your comfort level.
The best investment strategy is usually the one you can stick with confidently through the ups and downs.

A lot of people think investing means simply buying shares.
In reality, most investment portfolios are made up of a mix of different assets, such as:
• Cash
• Bonds
• Property
• Shares
• Commodities
Spreading investments across different areas can help manage risk and reduce reliance on one single market or sector.
Different mixes suit different people. Someone approaching retirement may invest very differently to someone investing for the next 25 years.
Good investing isn’t about chasing headlines. It’s about building a portfolio that fits your life and goals.
