Halfway through the tax year already, how did that happen? 👀

If you’re using Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, the second quarterly update is due by 7 November.

So this is your friendly reminder from Venton to catch up on any receipts, invoices and transactions that haven’t made it into your software yet, while the last few months are still fresh in your mind.

That includes the receipts in your bag, the invoices sitting in your inbox and anything you put somewhere “safe” to deal with later!

If you’re someone who puts a receipt somewhere ‘safe’ and then never sees it again… this one’s for you 👀

If you use Xero, you may already have access to Hubdoc, which gives you a much easier way to get invoices and receipts into your accounts (and across to your accountant!).

Lots of our clients already use it but there are a few handy features you might not know about yet.

Our latest blog talks through how Hubdoc works, the different ways you can use it and a few simple habits that can make keeping on top of your paperwork much easier.

Another new face has joined the Venton team! 👋

We’re really pleased to welcome Amelie, who has joined us as an Accounts Apprentice and will be learning on the job while starting her career in accountancy.

After studying Mathematics with Statistics at university, Amelie moved to Newquay to start her career in accountancy (and make the most of life by the sea!).

We’re big believers in apprenticeships at Venton and giving people the chance to learn, gain experience and develop their careers as part of the team, so we’re looking forward to supporting Amelie as she gets started.

You know what your profit is… but do you know whether you’re looking at gross profit or net profit? 👀

They might sound similar, but the two figures can tell you quite different things about how your business is doing.

One looks at what’s left after the direct costs of making your sales, while the other takes into account the wider costs of actually running the business.
