A thought from KWL founder, Peter Watts

Peter and Paula have just returned from a week in Kos.

What made the trip particularly special was that it was only the second holiday they've taken together without their children in more than 20 years.

That got Peter thinking.

Life has a funny way of quietly moving through different stages.

One minute you're planning family holidays around school terms, football & rugby matches and busy family calendars.

The next, your children are adults and you've entered a completely different chapter without really noticing it happening.

Peter said:

"I hadn't given a holiday for just the two of us a second thought for over 20 years. Then suddenly, there we were. Just the two of us again."

Kos was incredible. The hotel staff couldn't have done more for them and spending quality time together was exactly what they both needed.

Of course, they still missed the children.

Some things never change.

As financial planners, we're often reminded that retirement and later life aren't really about money.

They're about having the time and freedom to enjoy the people who matter most and making the most of each new chapter as it arrives.

🇩🇪 Have you ever visited Germany?

I'll be honest...

A few years ago it wasn't a country that featured very highly on my travel wish list.

Then Paula and I visited the Moselle Valley for a w**e festival and everything changed.

Beautiful vineyards, amazing scenery, fantastic food, great public transport and some of the friendliest people we've met whilst travelling.

This week on The Travel Brief, travel journalist William Cook and I explored some of Germany's lesser-known highlights.

📍 Berlin and Potsdam

📍 Munich and the Bavarian lakes

📍 Dresden and its beautiful restored old town

📍 Hamburg and Germany's stunning northern coastline

What struck me most was how different each place feels.

Germany isn't just one holiday destination.

It's lots of very different destinations, each with its own character, food, culture and history.

Many of our clients tell us that one of the things they're most looking forward to in retirement is having more time to travel and explore.
