Fun Friday fact!
Did you know that double-entry bookkeeping, the system still at the heart of accounting today, was first published way back in 1494?
It was written down by Italian friar Luca Pacioli, often called the ‘Father of Accounting’, in his book Summa de Arithmetica.
He didn’t actually invent double-entry bookkeeping (it had already been used by Italian merchants for years), but his book contained the first published description of the system.
And the really impressive bit? More than 500 years later, the basic principles are still in use today. Some things really do stand the test of time!
