An illustrative example of why AI won’t replace your accountant

AI can now do many things, how quick it’s evolving is quite encouraging and yet also alarming at the same time. For the record, I love AI, it helps me plan my workflow and assists me with keeping focused. However, AI does make mistakes, even after being given direction it continues to make errors. When you need specific advice for your business that directly impacts financial decisions you make - are you really going to put your faith into AI that’s still learning? I put a prompt into an AI bot, it came out with what on the face of it a great image - but on closer inspection it had given me a third leg. I gave instruction to remove the third leg - it only did this partially and removed only the foot and kept the leg. Even with me highlighting the problem and giving a solution AI still couldn’t figure it out. Are you really going to trust the computer with giving you the best advice for your needs? Use AI for ideas, perhaps a bit of inspiration but don’t risk your business stability on a computer that doesn’t know you, understand your business or appreciates the hard work and dedication it’s taken you to get to where you are now. It gives advice based on the content it’s learning from, it doesn’t have your best interests at heart and doesn’t want you to succeed. Sometimes the basic advice may be right, but it also doesn’t mean it’s right for you.

Then ask yourself

2) What’s the one thing you can do today to help make that happen - perhaps you need to meal prep to help balance your time, perhaps you need to reconcile your business banking software so you can end the week organised….

Success comes from action, no matter how small the action - it’s still a powerful move

AI can file, sort and organise your numbers better than any filing cabinet ever could. That job’s basically solved.
What it can’t replace is the accountant who sits down with you, looks at those same numbers, and helps you build an actual plan around them. That takes someone who knows your business — not just your balance sheet.
If your accountant’s only touchpoint is at year-end, you might be missing the part that actually moves things forward. 💬
