Traditionally, retirement was a definitive point at which most people stopped working and started drawing from the savings they’d accrued over the years.
However, it’s becoming increasingly common to transition into retirement gradually, rather than make a clean break from work.
A phased retirement can offer greater flexibility, purpose and financial freedom, but it’s important to have a plan in place.
At Amber River C&M, we can help you create a retirement strategy that works for your goals and the future you want.
If you'd like to explore your options, make an appointment to talk to one of our financial planners.

We have an article on our website which gives a good overview of the subject of phased retirement -

🏃🏻♀️Meet Charlotte, Emma, Rachel, Laura and Tasha!
🥇On Sunday, 27th September, these five amazing women are taking on the Baxters River Ness 10k Corporate Challenge!
🍂 They're raising funds for our nominated charity, Friends of "The Oaks" - Elgin Will you help them?
🙏🏻 Please pledge your support by going to their JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/amberrivercm-friendsoftheoaks-2026
Entering a team for this popular event was the idea of Rachel, our newest mortgage adviser in the Lossie office.
A keen runner herself, Rachel hoped to find three others to join her, but was thrilled when four colleagues came forward, including her mum, Emma, who only started running last year!
🏃🏻 Please give the girls every encouragement; they've already raised over £1600.
Can you help make it £2000?
🌳 All money raised will go towards supporting The Oaks, a nurse-led palliative care day unit, based in Elgin.
🌟We'll keep you updated on their progress.
Thank you in advance for your support!

🏡 Could you get a foot on the property ladder with just £5,000 deposit?
For some buyers, the challenge isn't affording the monthly mortgage payments, it's finding a large enough deposit in the first place.
Saving a 5% or 10% deposit can feel like the biggest hurdle for first-time buyers, particularly when you're already paying rent and managing the rising cost of everyday life.
🏠 But there are now mortgage products that could allow eligible first-time buyers to purchase a home with a deposit of just £5,000*
If you've been renting, saving and wondering whether buying your own home is actually within reach, make an appointment now to talk to one of our friendly advisers about your options.
📞 Call 01343 814000 or email [email protected]
🗝️Your first home might be closer than you think.
*Terms and conditions apply.
Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.

🚴♂️ Predict the ride! And win £100!
Amber River C&M Managing Director, David McConachie. has been pedalling his way towards an ambitious three-day charity bike ride, cycling from Vienna to Budapest later this year.
To help with his preparation, David has set himself a personal challenge, and if you help him on his way, you could be in with a chance to win £100!
🚴♀️ This Friday, David will cycle solo from Elgin to Dornoch, a distance of around 96 miles and will be raising funds for our chosen charity, Friends of the Oaks, as he goes.
The route heads north via back roads and includes a ferry crossing. Not only that, it's mostly into the prevailing wind!
⏱️But! How long will the ride take? What do you think?
Go to the dedicated website www.predictthreride.co.uk and take a guess. Pledge £10, £20 or more. Full details are on the website. Guess closest to the final time, and you'll win £100!
David says "While it may not sound particularly extreme to some seasoned cyclists, this is a significant challenge for me. The conditions on the day will play a huge part in determining my time, and I genuinely have no idea how long it will take."
Luckily, David's wife Winnie will be on speed dial should he encounter any problems!
🫡We wish David every success, and look forward to hearing all about the ride.
Thank you in advance for your support. Your generosity will help make all those miles worthwhile and, most importantly, raise valuable funds for a fantastic cause.
👉 Go to www.predicttheride.co.uk to support David and be in with a chance to win £100.
✅Amber River C&M will cover the website costs and all transaction fees, ensuring that 100% of your donation goes directly to Friends of the Oaks charity.
