Wow! A whole decade of tax, accounts and small business advice.
Setting up my own practise has been a fantastic decision enabling me to meet and support some wonderful people and businesses. The flexibility it has given me while my son was small was invaluable (particularly in the homeschool/COVID years).
There have been lots of changes and challenges in that time - most recently with the arrival of MTD for income tax and quarterly filing but I've enjoyed the learning curve and the move from my corporate career.
Here's to the next 10 🎉🎉

This morning has been spent on training and I am pleased to say I am now officially a Xero Tax specialist.
If you are thinking about a change of software (or too software) with Making Tax Digital looming on the horizon then get in touch for a demonstration!

Over the coming weeks all self-employed individuals and landlords registered for self-assessment will receive a letter from HMRC outlining the upcoming changes to filing requirements as the move to Making Tax Digital looms closer.
Figures on your 2024/25 tax return will determine the date you will be part of the new regime and this could be as soon as April 2026 so it is key to get this information correct and submitted as soon as possible to give you plenty of time to plan.
The key changes will be the requirements to maintain digital accounting records and make quarterly submissions of income and expenditure to HMRC but my governing body have created a helpful article and video which explains in greater detail.
If this is something you will need support with please reach out so we can discuss it further.
Economy explainers: what is MTD?
ICAEW's Tax Faculty sets out the key things taxpayers and agents need to know about Making Tax Digital (MTD), including the timeline for the phased introduction of MTD for income tax.

As Janaury comes to a close I am thrilled to annouce that I am now a member of the Business Advisory Service run by the ICAEW. This reflects my specilaism in small and start up businesses and means that any potential new small and medium business clients can have 1 hour of free advice before signing up to my services.

And that's (hopefully) a wrap for 2024 as I sign off for the Christmas break with my family.
It's been another busy year with new clients and old and I've been lucky enough to see my business continue to grow and thrive.
January will be busy, as always, with quite a few tax returns still to submit before the deadline but I plan to face it refreshed and relaxed.
Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous 2025.

Today my Facebook memories reminded me that it is 10 years since I became a fellow of the Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. That also means it's been 20 years since I passed all my professional exams and became a Chartered Accountant.
I'm not sure how it is possible when the memories of my time training are so fresh. If you add the 3 years for the accountancy exams, 4 years at University and 2 years of business studies at college I've dedicated a huge amount of time to my profession and career to get where I am today. It's a good job I love what I do!

After a summer of juggling work, childcare and whooping cough I've settled into September with some new client activity with Ben and Rachel at TennAce coming aboard with their new business. They offer tennis coaching for under 8s in Abbots Langley and Leavesden.
Being a family of tennis fans it is great to see other children enjoying the sport.
