I need to leave my wife. We've been together for 22 years and she was my ride-or-die for a long time. We've had some pretty serious problems that have all revolved around her family treating me poorly. Both of us come from poor families but I was able to be successful in business.⁠
⁠
She has never stood up for me versus her family or made me feel I have any value other than my income. Her family has treated me horribly, usually involving the business and money, but every time involves me either cleaning up their mess or losing something. I'll save you the details.⁠

We do well, are well respected in our small town, and are well known.⁠
⁠
We recently sold a business that produces a comfortable monthly income. I gave the money to her to manage but she complained about not knowing about the money, or about how much money she would get. The books were always open to her, but she lacked the desire to understand them. She had no idea about sales, costs, profit...any of that. She just knew she got money each week.⁠

Once she got control of the monthly income from the sale of the business she went on a car-buying spree buying 5 vehicles over the course of a year. Those cars, nice cars at that, ate up about half of the monthly income from the sale of the business.⁠
⁠
Today again she made it clear that regardless of right or wrong she will cause me harm and take the side of her family - who are/were dependent on my business. This scenario played out today for the last time. I'm done.⁠
⁠
It seems my only value to her is what she can get out of me. Regardless, I deserve to be loved and respected.⁠
⁠
She still very much has control of this side of the business so leaving on bad terms could leave me with nothing⁠

Help me with an exit strategy that doesn't kill my reputation or business in a small town.⁠
⁠
