Financial Markets Indaba is pleased to announce that it will participate as an Event Partner at the 3rd Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa, taking place on 21 September 2026 in Manhattan, New York.

Convened on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly under the theme “From Resources to Wealth: Continental Cooperation for Mineral Value Addition,” the Roundtable will bring together African Heads of State, ministers, multilateral and development finance institutions, and global private-sector leaders to advance a coordinated approach to Africa’s critical minerals agenda. The high-level Roundtable is being convened under the leadership of H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Chair of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), alongside other African Heads of State and senior leaders supporting the continent’s critical minerals and industrialisation agenda.

The Roundtable comes at a pivotal moment as demand for critical minerals continues to accelerate, driven by the global transition towards green technologies, digitalisation, advanced manufacturing and defence. With Africa possessing significant reserves of many of the minerals essential to these industries, the AMSG is seeking to move beyond the traditional export of raw materials towards local value addition, industrialisation, strategic partnerships and innovative financing. The meeting will build on the Mutual Assured Development (MADE) Framework and culminate in the unveiling of the Continental Integration and Economic Assurance Declaration (CIEAD).

By engaging students at an early stage, CMAZ supports the development of greater interest in investment, financial services and market-based economic opportunities, while encouraging young people to view the capital markets as an important part of Zimbabwe’s future economic development and as a potential pathway for professional careers within the financial sector.

Chengetedzai Depository Company Limited is a valued programme partner of the Quiz Competition. As Zimbabwe’s central securities depository, CDC plays an important role in supporting the safe, efficient and transparent functioning of the country’s securities markets, strengthening investor confidence and market integrity. ZMX operates an advanced Electronic Warehouse Receipt System and Commodities Trading Platform, providing a secure, transparent and efficient marketplace for the trading and financing of commodities.

Through its support of the initiative, ZMX seeks to promote greater awareness among young people of the role that commodity markets play in economic development, agricultural financing and value creation. The partnership will also encourage students to explore future opportunities across Zimbabwe’s evolving financial and agricultural sectors, including careers in commodities trading, agricultural finance, investment and capital markets.

Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) is a programme partner of the Quiz Competition, supporting the initiative’s objective of strengthening financial literacy and developing a deeper understanding of capital markets among secondary school students.

Beyond financial literacy, the ZSE’s support is aimed at developing the next generation of investors and capital markets professionals. By introducing students to the principles of saving, investing, portfolio management and securities markets at an early age, the programme seeks to build their confidence and knowledge so that they can actively participate and invest on Zimbabwe’s stock exchanges in the near future. This early exposure also helps students appreciate the role that capital markets can play in long-term wealth creation and economic development.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe (SECZim) is a key programme partner of the Capital Markets – High Schools Quiz Competition, supporting the initiative’s mission to strengthen financial literacy and capital markets awareness among young people. Through this partnership, SECZim is helping equip the next generation with practical knowledge of capital markets, investment principles and the role of financial institutions in economic development.

The initiative ultimately contributes to broadening participation in Zimbabwe’s financial sector and supporting sustainable, long-term economic growth. The quiz competition promotes critical thinking, research, analytical skills and healthy academic competition while helping prepare young Zimbabweans for further education and careers in finance, business and related disciplines.

The Virtual Trading Competition remains one of the flagship components of the Quiz Competition, providing students with an immersive introduction to the world of investing.

Forty secondary and high schools from across Zimbabwe will participate in the simulation, which is delivered in partnership with the Financial Securities Exchange (FINSEC) using the C-Trade platform. The programme enables learners to experience the workings of capital markets in a realistic, risk-free environment while reinforcing the concepts covered throughout the competition.

During last year’s competition, participants delivered outstanding performances, with Harare High School emerging as the standout school after growing its virtual portfolio from an initial ZW$1 million to more than ZW$14 million within a month through effective investment decisions and portfolio management.

By analysing market trends, constructing portfolios, and managing investment risk, students gain practical experience that complements classroom learning while developing analytical thinking, financial literacy, strategic decision-making, and digital skills. As technology, data analytics, and artificial intelligence continue to transform global financial markets, the competition equips young people with the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate modern capital markets and seize future opportunities in finance, business, and the broader digital economy.

The Capital Markets High Schools Quiz Competition returns for its fifth edition, bringing together forty high schools representing all ten provinces of Zimbabwe in one of the country’s leading financial literacy and investment education initiatives. The annual national competition has become a flagship platform for developing the next generation of financially informed leaders by challenging students to deepen their understanding of capital markets, investment principles and the broader financial services sector. Beyond fostering academic excellence and healthy competition, the programme is designed to strengthen financial literacy and equip young people with practical knowledge that supports informed financial decision-making.

As Zimbabwe’s capital markets continue to evolve, the competition plays an increasingly important role in preparing students to participate meaningfully in the country’s economic future. Through rigorous preparation and participation, learners gain valuable insights into the functions of stock exchanges, investment products, regulation, corporate finance and the contribution of capital markets to national economic growth, entrepreneurship and wealth creation. The initiative continues to bridge knowledge gaps while inspiring greater interest in careers within finance, economics and the wider investment ecosystem.

Complementing the quiz competition, Financial Markets Indaba, in partnership with the Financial Securities Exchange (FINSEC), is also hosting a Virtual Trading Simulation Competition on the C-Trade platform. The simulation provides students with an immersive, real-world investment experience by replicating live trading activity on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange, enabling participants to construct and manage virtual investment portfolios while responding to changing market conditions. Together, the quiz and virtual trading challenge combine theoretical knowledge with practical application, creating a comprehensive financial education programme that develops investment skills, critical thinking and confidence among Zimbabwe’s future investors.
