File early, avoid the drama, and keep yourself off the excuse list.

Making Tax Digital has landed, and it changes how landlords and the self-employed deal with tax.
From April 2026, if you earn over £50,000 from self-employment or property, the single annual tax return is gone. Instead: digital records, a quarterly update to HMRC, and a final declaration after year end. The threshold falls to £30,000 in 2027 and £20,000 in 2028, so more people are pulled in each year. Payment dates don’t change, only the reporting.
