Did you know?

Choosing to leave your workplace pension doesn't always mean you're out for good.

If you're still eligible, your employer will usually re-enrol you automatically every three years.

It's a rule that catches many employees by surprise.

Salary sacrifice can be a smart way to reduce tax, boost your pension and access certain employee benefits more efficiently—but it's important to understand the rules.

In 2026/27, salary sacrifice can still be particularly effective for:
• Pension contributions
• Electric cars
• Cycle-to-work schemes
• Workplace nursery places

For some employees, it can also help reduce adjusted net income, potentially restoring the Personal Allowance or reducing the High Income Child Benefit Charge.

However, there are trade-offs. Salary sacrifice can affect statutory pay, mortgage affordability and, from April 2029, the National Insurance savings on pension salary sacrifice will change for contributions above £2,000 a year.

The right arrangement depends on your income, your goals and your wider financial plans.

More people are working internationally than ever before, and one of the biggest misconceptions is that leaving the UK automatically ends your UK tax obligations. In reality, tax residence rules can be more complex, and the timing of a move can have a significant impact on your tax position.

If you're planning a move overseas, already working abroad, or preparing to return to the UK, it's worth reviewing your position before making any major decisions.

Our team can help you understand the rules and avoid unexpected tax issues.

HMRC’s latest figures show tax receipts continuing to rise across both businesses and households.
