PAYE Month 5 is due today. June payroll payment deadline for cheque and postal payments is 19th August. Electronic payment deadline is 22nd August.
If you have not filed your July Full Payment Submission, do it now. The FPS must be filed before the payment.
HMRC's system catches late PAYE automatically. There is no officer reviewing your account and making a judgement call. It is a system. It finds the late payment. It records it. Four or more late payments in a year triggers a formal penalty.
Message us if VABK can take payroll off your plate going forward.

CIS monthly return is due today. Every subcontractor you paid in July must be on this return. Every payment. Every deduction. Every UTR.
If you have made any payments to unverified subcontractors, the deduction rate is 30%. If you applied the wrong rate, the correction needs to happen now, not at year end.
Late CIS returns start at £100 and increase to £300 after two months. A nil return is still required if you made no payments.

You ignored the HMRC letter. It is still there. Ignoring it has not made it smaller and it has not started a clock that was not already running.
Most HMRC letters are not as bad as people fear. A compliance check. A discrepancy query. A VAT inspection notice. Almost all of them have a straightforward response.
But every day that passes without a response is a day of interest accruing, a day of HMRC drawing their own conclusions from the silence, and a day that the resolution becomes more complicated than it needed to be.
Open the letter. Find out what it actually says. Then call us.

You are paying subcontractors without verifying them through CIS first. Every single one of those payments is a compliance risk.
If a subcontractor is unverified, HMRC requires you to deduct 30% rather than 20%.
If you have been deducting the wrong rate, you are liable for the difference. Not the subcontractor. You.
Verification takes five minutes through your HMRC online account or your CIS-compatible software. It must happen before any payment is made. Not after. Before.

CIS deductions sitting with HMRC are your money. Not a bonus at year end. Not a nice surprise. Your money, deducted from every payment you received as a subcontractor, sitting in an HMRC account waiting for someone to claim it back.
How long has it been sitting there?
If your contractor has been deducting 20% from your payments and nobody has filed a CIS repayment claim on your behalf, you are owed money right now. In some cases significant money, built up over multiple years.
The claim process is straightforward. What it requires is someone who knows to file it.
Message us CISRECLAIM and we will check your position.

MTD for Income Tax Q1 deadline is today. If you are a sole trader or landlord earning over £50,000 and your records are not digital and submitted through your MTD-compatible software, you are already late.
The penalty system is points-based. One point per late submission. Four points equals a £200 penalty. Every subsequent late submission adds £200 more.
If you are in scope and have not submitted: do it today. If your software is not set up: message us now. If you are not sure whether you are in scope: message us and we will tell you in five minutes.

You are turning over good money and still feel broke at the end of every month. That is not an income problem. That is a structure problem and they have completely different fixes.
The income answer is: earn more. Work harder. Take on more jobs.
The structure answer is: look at where the money is going. Your tax reserve. Your PAYE timing. Your subcontractor payment schedule. Your invoice collection. The gap between when you bill and when you get paid.
Most construction business owners we speak to have never had someone sit down with them and show them where the money actually goes. Not the headline numbers. The real flow.
That conversation changes everything.

Your books are three months behind. Your accountant cannot plan what they cannot see and they cannot save you from what they don't know is coming.
Three months of unreconciled transactions means three months of decisions made without the full picture. It means your VAT return is a guess. It means your corporation tax estimate is fiction. It means the letter from HMRC that arrived last week is sitting unanswered because you are not sure what the number should be.
Getting your books current is not an admin task. It is the thing that makes every other financial decision possible.
Message us today and we will tell you honestly how far behind you are and what it takes to fix it.

31st July — Pay Today
Today is the second payment on account deadline for Self Assessment 2025/26.
If you have not yet paid — pay now. Not this afternoon. Now.
How to pay: online bank transfer to HMRC. Sort code 08-32-10, Account number 12001039. Reference: your 10-digit UTR followed by K.
If you cannot pay in full: call HMRC Business Payment Support on 0300 200 3835. A Time to Pay arrangement today is significantly better than a late payment penalty and interest accruing from tonight.
And while you are sorting July — the MTD IT Q1 quarterly submission is due 7th August. Next week. If your records are not digital and complete, that needs your attention today too.
