Generational wealth isn’t simply about what you leave behind.
It’s about the decisions you make before then too.
How much will you need for your own future? Could helping your children now make more difference than leaving them money later? What happens if you receive an inheritance yourself? And how do you even begin having those conversations as a family?
On Thursday 17th September at 12pm, Rebecca is hosting a complimentary webinar exploring Generational Wealth Planning from both sides of the conversation.
We’ll look at some of the practical questions around passing wealth on, receiving an inheritance and making sure your money continues to support the people and priorities that matter to you.
If this is something your family hasn’t really talked about yet, this could be a very good place to start.

What do you want your money to make possible?
It’s a question we ask a lot in financial planning, and International Day of Charity on 5th September feels like a good reminder that the answer doesn’t always have to be about ourselves.
Rebecca has supported Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity for many years, a cause that means an enormous amount to her.
Building financial security can create choices: the ability to enjoy life, support your family, help the next generation and, where you want to, support causes that matter deeply to you too.
For some people that might mean regular charitable giving. For others, fundraising, volunteering, supporting a particular appeal or including a charity within their longer-term plans.
There isn’t one right way to give back.
But there is something rather powerful about reaching a position where your money can do good beyond your own household too.
This International Day of Charity, we’re proud to celebrate the organisations, charities and individuals making that possible every day.

Could your pension leave your family with a bigger tax bill than you expected?
Changes due to come into force from April 2027 mean most unused pension funds and death benefits will be brought into estates for inheritance tax purposes (source: The Times, August 2026).
A new article in The Times looks at the potential knock-on effects, particularly for larger estates.
There could be inheritance tax to consider. If the pension holder dies aged 75 or over, beneficiaries may also pay income tax when withdrawing inherited pension funds. And including pension wealth within an estate could push more estates above the £2 million threshold where the residence nil-rate band begins to taper.
The exact impact will depend on individual circumstances, and more than 90% of estates are still expected to pay no inheritance tax under the changes.
But if you’ve spent years building pension wealth and assumed it would sit outside your estate, it’s worth understanding what the new rules could mean for your plans.
It also raises a much wider question: what do you actually want to happen to your wealth?
Do you want to leave an inheritance? Help your family during your lifetime? Make sure you have enough for your own future first? And if you’re the person receiving an inheritance, what should you do with it?
Rebecca will be exploring these questions in our complimentary Generational Wealth Planning webinar on Thursday 17 September at 12pm.

Would you think twice before scanning a QR code on a parking machine?
Probably not. And that’s exactly why this scam is worth knowing about.
The BBC has reported on the rise of “quishing”, where criminals use fraudulent QR codes to direct people to fake websites or apps (source : BBC : Aug 26)
One man visiting the coast scanned what appeared to be a parking QR code after realising he didn’t have change. He became suspicious, stopped the process and deleted the app, but it was already too late. A £1 payment was taken, followed by £60 the next day, and his bank discovered a monthly £60 subscription had been set up.
The council later confirmed it didn’t use QR codes for parking payments at all.
According to Report Fraud figures shared by the BBC, reports mentioning QR codes have risen from 341 in the year ending August 2022 to 2,743 in the past 12 months.
It’s a useful reminder that scams don’t always arrive as suspicious emails or unexpected phone calls anymore. They can be sitting on a parking machine looking completely legitimate.
Before scanning a QR code in a public place, take a second to check it hasn’t been stuck over the original signage and look at the web address before entering any personal or payment details.
A few extra seconds could save you considerably more than the cost of parking.

You’ve received an inheritance. What do you do with it now?
Receiving an inheritance can bring a lot of decisions with it, especially if it arrives at an already emotional time.
You may suddenly be holding a significant amount of money and wondering whether you should invest it, keep it in cash, pay off your mortgage, add to your pension, help your children or simply leave it alone until you’ve had time to think.
There isn’t one answer that will be right for everyone.
What matters is understanding what that inheritance could mean for your own financial plans before making decisions you may later wish you had approached differently.
On Thursday 17th September at 12.00pm, Rebecca is hosting a complimentary webinar for anyone who has received an inheritance and is wondering what comes next.
She’ll talk through some of the questions worth considering, how an inheritance can fit into your wider financial plans and why taking a little time to understand your options can be so valuable before deciding what to do with the money.
If you’ve recently inherited and don’t know where to start, this session is for you.

Do you see September as your “second January”?
There’s something about September that feels like a fresh start.
The summer holidays finish, children go back to school, routines return and suddenly all those things we said we’d sort out “after the summer” are back on the agenda.
Perhaps your finances are one of them.
You might have pensions from previous jobs that you’ve been meaning to review, investments you want to understand better, questions about when you could realistically retire, or simply a feeling that your finances could do with a proper review.
January gets all the attention when it comes to setting goals, but September can be just as good an opportunity to get organised.
If you’re ready for your own September reset, our complimentary discovery call gives you the opportunity to sit down with us, talk about where you are now and start thinking about what you want your money to help you achieve.
You don’t need to have all the answers before you speak to us. That’s why we have the conversation.

Six of the top seven mistakes students regret making at university are about money.
With A Level results out and a record number of students securing university places this year, thousands of families are now getting ready for the big move in September.
And alongside accommodation, packing lists and working out exactly how many saucepans one student really needs, there’s another conversation worth having before they go: money.
New research from Nationwide found that the biggest regret amongst current students is not budgeting or tracking their spending, with other common mistakes including:
• Overspending on nights out
• Relying too heavily on overdrafts or credit
• Not saving in advance
• Not having emergency savings
• Spending the student loan too quickly
Nearly four in ten students surveyed are spending between £150 and £300 a week on food and drink, on top of rent and utility bills, and 60% are spending more on food than they expected (source: Nationwide, August 2026).
University has always been a big lesson in independence, but the financial side of that independence is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate.
If your child is heading off this September, you don’t need to give them a lecture on every financial mistake they could possibly make. Helping them work out what they’ll actually have available each week, talking about how overdrafts and credit work and making sure they know they can ask for help can give them a much better starting point.
There will probably still be a few questionable Freshers’ Week purchases. That’s part of university life!
But learning how to manage money independently is a skill they’ll carry with them long after they graduate.

Would you make a financial decision based on something you saw on social media?
A new piece of research reported by FT Adviser has produced a pretty sobering statistic (source: FT.com, March 2026).
56% of adults who acted on financial advice they found on social media lost money, with an average loss of £690.46.
Perhaps even more concerning is how much trust we’re placing in what we see online. Among people who had encountered financial advice on social media, 56% said they trusted the content, rising to 72% among 25 to 34-year-olds.
Then there’s AI. One in four respondents had used AI for financial advice, yet 51% said they weren’t confident they could identify AI-generated financial content.
We’re certainly not against using social media or AI to learn more about money. There is some brilliant educational content available, and anything that gets more people interested in understanding their finances can be positive.
But financial information and personal financial advice are two very different things.
A post, video or AI response doesn't know your complete circumstances, existing arrangements, attitude to risk or what you're ultimately trying to achieve with your money.
So use these tools to learn, get curious and ask better questions, but be very careful about making significant financial decisions based solely on what appears on your feed.
Your financial future deserves more than an algorithm.

Which is why this recent review from Lucy meant so much to Rebecca and the Evolution team:
“Rebecca Robertson at Evolution Financial Planning has been my Financial Adviser for a number of years, and I only have extremely positive things to say about her and her team. They are quick, efficient and friendly, totally trustworthy, and I really feel that they want the best for me and my money.
