Business Intelligence, The Key To Company Success...
Business Intelligence is the ability to transform data into information and information into knowledge, so as to optimize the business decision-making process. Intelligence is the Key to Success. The key to thriving in a competitive marketplace is staying ahead of the competition. Making sound business decisions based on accurate and current information takes more than intuition. A Business Intelligence system thus becomes a determining factor for the success of the business.

The Cyber Domain: A Shared and Global Opportunity..
In 2007, a rogue computer network impacted the majority of Estonians by taking out Estonia's essential electronic infrastructure. This bogged down government communications and crippled banking systems, name servers, media websites, and Internet Service Providers. In the cyber domain, which knows no borders, a teen-aged hacker working out of a basement with a hand-held device or a laptop possesses the potential to bring down a nation's defense systems and cripple its critical infrastructure. Why not look at this as an opportunity to create a new impartial entity that elicits expertise and resources from the private sector, non-profit, academia, and the government to combat this growing threat?

The Need for Physical and IT Security Convergence:
More and more we see headlines like the ones above as employees act out in their workplaces. Many times the violence is involves innocent employees who have had no dealings with the attacker, but are assaulted during the commission of another crime. However, some victims are actually targeted at the workplace. It's hard to predict where an attack might come from and many times impossible to know if it will ever happen. However, there are ways to identify risks, hazards and means to protect, prevent, and be prepared for an emergency event.

Protect Your Organization's Proprietary Information:
The other day one of our overseas clients called in a state of near panic, to ask a question. At issue was whether they had unwittingly violated U.S. law by transferring technical information to a joint venture partner in a European country. After hearing a two minute description, I was able to answer a resounding "Yes"! Such are the dangers of operating in a global environment. The worst part is that my client had been lead into their misdeed by following the well intentioned advice of a Fortune 100 U.S. corporation. One that certainly should have known better, but obviously does not. The potential penalties for such errors are daunting and ignorance of the law is not a defense. For a mere administrative ("civil") infraction, the penalty is up to $100,000 per occurrence. For intentional misdeeds, which are accorded criminal penalties, well, let's not even go there.

Count Something and Make It Count: The Benefits of Metric Tracking in the Impact Investing Space:
Historically, businesses have mostly had a single measurement of success or failure; they were judged on whether or not they made money. In the emerging Impact Investing ecosystem, proponents of Impact Investing are seeking to establish the new world order-that other things count too. And while it is great for an organization to contribute to the greater good and for funds to invest in companies that seek to do good, it is no longer enough to say that you do good, but rather it is imperative to demonstrate it. "Why is it good?" "Who is it good for?" "Is it better this month than last month?" These are the types of hard questions that many organizations are starting to ask of their efforts when they realize that when it comes to quantifying success, they need to track more than financial metrics.
