⚠️Big changes are coming for UK small businesses from April 2026 — and now is the time to prepare.

🔸From Making Tax Digital requiring quarterly reporting, to increases in dividend tax and National Minimum Wage, the overall direction is clear: more admin, higher costs, and tighter compliance.

🔹For many businesses, the wage increase alone could add around £1,000 per employee per year — before NICs and pensions. At the same time, changes to Business Asset Disposal Relief and business rates could impact long-term planning and cash flow.

🔸These aren’t just technical tax changes — they have real implications for profitability, pricing, and day-to-day operations.

⚠️Important Update for Company Directors

🔸Companies House has now launched its new identity verification system and from 18 November 2025, it will be a legal requirement for all company directors and People with Significant Control (PSCs) to verify their identity.

🔹You can complete verification directly through Companies House, it’s quick, secure, and free.

🔸Fincrest Limited is now an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) and can assist with verification if needed, though we recommend directors complete it themselves.

💡Still waiting to file your tax return?

When it comes to taxes, filing your return early can save you from a lot of stress and hassle. It's important to take advantage of the benefits that come with filing early, as it can potentially save you money and help avoid penalties. Preparing for your taxes in advance allows you to plan for the future and take control of your finances. Filing your tax return early will also help you enjoy the peace of mind that comes with submitting your taxes on time. Below are some benefits of filing your tax return early:

✅Avoiding penalties - Filing your tax return early reduces the risk of incurring penalties for late filing.

✅Peace of mind - Filing early provides peace of mind, as you will not have the added stress of a pending deadline.

✅Early awareness of tax liability - Filing early allows you to determine your tax liability and plan for payment if necessary. No matter when you file your return, the deadline for paying your tax stays the same, 31 January. By filing early, you can start putting money aside in preparation for payment.

✅Faster refunds - If you are due a refund, filing early will allow you to receive it sooner.

✅Need to contact HMRC? - If you need to contact HMRC as part of your tax return submission, contacting them now will help you beat the rush and avoid the long phone queues common during January.

✅Improved accuracy - Filing early gives you time to review your information and make any necessary corrections. It helps to avoid rushing the tax return on 31 January, leads to improved accuracy and helps avoid mistakes.

📌Fincrest can help make filling your tax return painless. We will use our tax knowledge and experience to claim all available allowances and legally minimise the tax payable as far as possible. If you need any help with your taxes this year, do not hesitate to contact us.

🔸As a business, navigating payroll can be time-consuming, not to mention keeping up with employment legislation and penalties for non-compliance.

🔹There is also a need to report all salaries in real-time i.e. on or before the pay date.

🔸Payroll affects every aspect of a small business from the morale of employees to the financial stability of the company. Payroll should always be paid in a timely manner to keep employee morale high.

🔹It’s important that payroll information is accurate to ensure that each employee is paid the correct amount, every time, and the correct employment taxes are paid over to HMRC. Penalties can be issued by HMRC where employment taxes i.e PAYE and NIC are not paid in full and on time.

📍We can take that administrative burden off your hands, leaving you with more time to focus on your core business.

🔸6 April 2025 marks the start of the 2025-26 tax year. New tax rates and allowances for 2025-26 may come into effect based on the Spring Budget decisions. A tax return for 2024-25 can be filed from this date.

🔹If you are required to make advance payments towards your tax bill, the second payment on account is due before midnight on 31 July 2025. You will then need to pay a further 'balancing payment' on 31st January 2026 if any tax is still outstanding.

🔸Sign up for self-assessment by 5 October 2025 if you've never filed a tax return before. This is essential for submitting your 2024-25 tax return and obtaining your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number and activation code in time for filing.

🔹If you also pay tax via PAYE, you have the option to pay any overdue tax over 12 months via your tax code instead of a single payment on 31 January. To qualify, you must file your tax online before 30 December, and your tax bill must be less than £3,000.

🔸By 30 December 2025, individuals who file their tax returns online and have earnings taxed under PAYE can choose to have any overdue tax collected through their tax code over the following year.

🔹If you're filing your tax return online for the year 2024-25, it must be submitted to HMRC by 31 January 2026. You'll also need to pay any tax you owe by this date.
