- Finding the right buyer for your business can be tricky, and it’s important to know how to filter the credible prospects from those playing a numbers game.
- To help you identify a serious buyer, you can ask questions such as: “Is the initial communication personalised?” and “Do they have good web presence?”
- Third-party firms can support you in identifying legitimate buyers and advise on how to engage with them.
Finding a buyer for your business is a lot like dating. Approaches from potential acquirers are sure to get your attention. They can excite. But they can be a huge distraction too. So, if you’re thinking of selling, it’s crucial to filter serious, credible buyers from those who are simply playing a numbers game.
If the other side’s approach is to contact multiple potential sellers quickly in the hope of getting lucky, that could end up wasting lots of your time and energy.
If an acquisition goes wrong due to lack of expertise or commitment from the other side, the experience could hold you back from finding a more suitable buyer in the future.
Have you considered the best process for selling your business in the future?

Saving for retirement might not be something you think about starting while you’re still reading bedtime stories and going to soft play centres. But opening a pension for your children can set them – and their own future family – up for positive financial wellbeing.
Setting up a pension for a young child means even small contributions have more time to grow. And given that we’re all living longer – one in five girls and one in seven boys born in 2020 are expected to live to 101 – planning now for your family’s future can have a real positive impact. Financial advice can help you find the most tax-efficient way to help spread your wealth across generations of your family – and make sure that you’re not giving away more than you can afford.

The S&P 500 reached a record high last week, as the boom in valuations for large technology companies continued.
This boom has occurred despite a number of uncertainties facing markets this year. These include the 2024 presidential election, which will almost certainly be a rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. While this will likely have the biggest impact on the US, it’s worth noting that there are several elections due this year, including in the UK, India, and Russia.

This week's stock update:
- The S&P 500 reached a new all-time high last week, thanks to the strong performance of big tech companies.
- There are increasing concerns about global issues. There's still ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and events in Israel and Gaza are also causing tension. Additionally, there have been attacks on international shipping by Houthi rebels, and three US soldiers lost their lives with many more injured at a military post on the border of Iraq and Jordan over the weekend.
- Good news for investors in UK companies, as the FTSE 100 saw a rise last week.
- In China, the Shanghai Composite went up by 2.8% in their currency, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index did even better with a 4.2% increase.
- Tech company stocks continue to rise, driven by hopes in artificial intelligence. Furthermore, it seems that interest rates might have hit their peak, as recent data shows that US core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation dropped from 3.2% in November to 2.9% in December.
