Statutory Sick Pay is changing from April 2026 and it affects every employer.
From 6 April 2026, SSP rules will change in some of the biggest reforms in years. More employees will qualify, payments will start sooner, and SSP will no longer be a simple flat-rate calculation.
Key changes include:
• SSP paid from day one of sickness (no waiting days)
• More employees eligible, including lower-paid and part-time staff
• SSP linked to pay. 80% of earnings (up to the weekly cap)
• Potential cost increases for employers
• Payroll and absence systems will need updating
These reforms are designed to improve support for employees but they also mean employers need to plan ahead.
Our latest article explains what's changing, what it means in practice, and how employers should prepare.

Payroll in the energy sector can quickly become complex. Mixed workforces, rapid project growth and heavy regulation leave little room for error.
In this article, we share what we have learned from supporting payroll operations for energy businesses, including how to manage complexity, stay compliant and scale without disrupting employees or internal teams.
When payroll is handled properly, it becomes reliable, predictable and quiet. That allows energy companies to focus on delivery, not firefighting.

In the energy sector, reliability is expected across every part of the operation. Payroll should be no exception.
As energy businesses grow, payroll often becomes more complex. Mixed workforces, tight pay cycles, regulatory pressure and rapid change can turn a function that should run quietly into a source of risk and distraction.
When payroll is designed properly, it becomes predictable, compliant and calm. That allows internal teams to focus on running the business, not fixing problems.
