It’s easy to accidentally overpay on their self assessment because they don’t know what can be included.

Here’s what often gets missed —>

Payments on accounts

Although they won’t lower your total tax bill, any payments on account you’ve already made towards that tax year will reduce the balance left to pay.

CIS tax deductions

Tax that’s already been deducted from your contractor

Remember - when reporting CIS deductions, don’t try and be clever by saying you have had more deducted to get a higher rebate. It won’t work. HMRC have access to CIS deductions and will request any overpaid tax back and include interest if not repaid quick.

Tax relief & allowances

You could be entitled to certain allowances. This all relys on your personal circumstances and income.

Allowable business expenses

Check with your accountant on things you can/can’t claim for. The more you claim for, the less tax payable
