Already using Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?
The confirmed deadline for the second quarterly update for 2026/27 is 7 November 2026.
Those currently required to use MTD are generally sole traders and landlords with combined gross income from self-employment and property above £50,000. The quarterly update is a summary of income and expenses—not another full tax return.
Make sure your digital records are up to date and your compatible software is ready. If you need help meeting the deadline, contact AC Accounting & Payroll Ltd.

Planning to file your 2025/26 Self Assessment return on paper?
The confirmed deadline is 11:59pm on 31 October 2026. HMRC must receive the completed return by then, so posting it on the deadline date is not enough.
The deadline for online returns is 31 January 2027.
If you have not yet started gathering your information, now is the time. Contact AC Accounting & Payroll Ltd for help getting your return completed accurately and on time.

Could your manufacturing business reduce its electricity costs?
Applications are now open for the British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme. From 2027, eligible manufacturing sites could receive electricity-cost reductions of up to £40 per megawatt hour.
Applications close on 30 November 2026. Businesses can check their likely eligibility and apply now, although final decisions will not be made until the required legislation comes into force.
If rising energy costs are affecting your cash flow, contact AC Accounting & Payroll Ltd.

Companies House identity verification is a legal requirement—and enforcement has begun.
Three directors have received the first convictions for failing to comply. Importantly, one had verified his own identity but failed to prevent an unverified co-director from continuing to act.
Existing directors must verify by the deadline linked to their company’s confirmation statement. Directors should also ensure their company does not allow anyone unverified to continue acting.

You may need to register if you became self-employed, started receiving rental income or received other income that has not been taxed.

Important change for businesses using casual workers, subcontractors or gig-economy arrangements.
From today, 1 October 2026, right-to-work responsibilities extend beyond traditional employees. The confirmed rules can also apply to some workers, individual subcontractors and online matching services.
For new engagements and contractual arrangements, complete the correct check before work begins and retain the evidence. Civil penalties can reach £60,000 for each illegal worker.
