Is sponsorship worth it for your business? 🤔

Something I get asked quite a lot.

If you’re sponsoring someone expecting to gain clients or win new business, you’re doing it for the wrong reasons.

If your business is doing well and you’ve got a bit of spare cash to give something back to your community, then absolutely 👏

You’re supporting local talent, getting your brand out there and sponsorship can be 100% tax deductible as an advertising and marketing expense, providing it meets HMRC’s rules.

I feel like I owe a lot to the city of Hull, and being in a position to give something back means a lot to me.

Roll. The. Dice. 🎲

That’s a saying I live by.

When I started this business I didn’t even have enough money to buy the laptop I needed. I maxed out a personal credit card and negotiated three months credit with our software supplier hoping I could generate enough work and bring in enough clients to pay them when the invoice landed.

Six months later, I took on my first employee and moved into our first serviced office. Since then, that one decision to back myself has grown into a city-centre office and nine people on the payroll.

I’m incredibly grateful for the position we are in today and I don’t take any of it for granted. However, so much of it started with being willing to take a chance on myself.

Sometimes in business you’ve just got to roll the dice 🎲

There will always be someone who can do your accounts cheaper.

Someone working from their back bedroom. A mate of a mate. Somebody’s nana who’ll do your tax return for £100.

And if you’re looking for the cheapest accountant possible, that’s absolutely fine.

But we’re probably not for you.

Not because we’re expensive, because we’re not. We just want to work with business owners who actually see the value a good accountant can bring to their business.

Someone you can pick up the phone to. Someone who knows your business. Someone who keeps on top of deadlines, spots things before they become a problem and actually gives you advice throughout the year, not just when your accounts are due.

So when someone comes to us because their current accountant isn’t responding, deadlines are being missed, things are getting overlooked and penalties are starting to rack up, and then says…

“Your quote is a bit more than I’m paying now.”

Well, yeah

You’re comparing two completely different levels of service. It’s very different from seeing a pair of trainers £10 cheaper in a different shop

I’ve said it a million times and I’ll keep saying it…

A good accountant should pay for themselves.

Whether that’s tax saved, penalties avoided, better decisions, better planning or simply stopping you from making one very expensive mistake.

There will always be someone cheaper.

We just want to be the accountant that’s worth every penny.

Employers National Insurance — the biggest scam in business? 🤯

You’re running a business, doing well, creating jobs and decide to pay someone a decent salary of £40,000 a year.

Great.

Except that £40,000 employee doesn’t cost you £40,000.

On top of their salary, you’re handing over around £5,250 to HMRC in Employers National Insurance simply for the privilege of employing them.

💷 Salary: £40,000
🏦 Employers’ NI: £5,250
📈 Actual cost: £45,250

And that’s before pension contributions and any other employment costs.

You’re creating a job. You’re paying someone a wage. They’re paying tax and National Insurance themselves.

And the employer gets another tax bill for employing them.

£5,250 for the privilege of giving someone a job.

Make it make sense. 🤯
