Selling on eBay, Vinted, Etsy or TikTok Shop?
If you made more than £1,000 in gross sales from trading between 6 April 2025 and 5 April 2026, HMRC needs to hear from you by 5 October 2026.
Gross means before fees, postage and the cost of your stock, so plenty of sellers are over the line without realising it. Clearing out your own wardrobe is different; that is not trading and is not taxed.
We have written the whole thing up: who is caught, how the £1,000 trading allowance works, how to register, and what to do if the date has already gone.

Heads up, UK sellers 👋
There's a Self Assessment tax bill due on 31 July, your second Payment on Account. And because it's based on last year's profit, a lot of sellers end up paying more than they need to.
The good news: if this year's been quieter than last, you may be able to reduce it. But the maths needs to be right, or HMRC adds interest.

Heads up, UK sellers 👋
HMRC is consulting on a change that could see Amazon, eBay and Etsy collect the VAT on your sales, instead of you doing it yourself.
The important bit: nothing has changed yet. It is a proposal, open until 18 August 2026. But if it goes ahead it would affect your cash flow and your bookkeeping, so it is worth knowing about now.
Not sure where your VAT stands? Book a free call and our team will review it with you:
