Budget season is here, which means the rumour mill is already doing what it does best. 💬

Tax changes?
Pensions?
Savings?
Property?
Business support?

There will be plenty of predictions before the Chancellor announces the Autumn Budget on 28 October, but predictions are not the same as confirmed changes.

So our advice is simple: don’t panic, and don’t make big decisions based on headlines alone.

It’s sensible to be aware of what’s being discussed, especially if changes could affect you or your business, but it’s always better to wait for the confirmed details before acting.

At Indigo, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the Budget and will help our clients understand the important points once we know what has actually been announced, in plain English obviously.

Indie is also following developments closely, although he remains disappointed that bamboo tax relief is still not on the agenda. 🐼

Thinking about changing accountants? It’s more common than you think. We often speak to business owners who say the same things: 💬

“I don’t really understand what’s going on.”
“I feel like I’m chasing for updates.”
“It’s all a bit stressful.”

It doesn’t have to feel like that, promise.

Changing accountants is usually a straightforward process, and we handle the handover for you, calmly and professionally. 🤩

Teresa spotted this little panda lifecycle while on holiday recently, which got us thinking how businesses change over time. 🐼

You might start small, just getting things off the ground and working out what needs doing. Then things grow. There are more decisions to make, more records to keep, more deadlines to remember and usually a few new responsibilities that weren’t there at the beginning.

What worked perfectly well at one stage may not be quite right for the next. That’s where having the right support around you can make such a difference.

At Indigo, we work with clients at different stages of their business journey, helping them understand what they need now and what they may need to think about next.

From getting organised to planning ahead, asking questions, understanding tax, keeping records and making sense of the numbers, we’re here for the journey, so please get in touch to have a chat to find out how we could help your business.

Indie is calling this professional development. We’re calling it another excuse for a panda photo. 🤣

Indie has been travelling - this time he’s made it all the way to Asia, although we’re fairly sure his travel arrangements were more “packed in a suitcase” than “business class with a laptop bag”. 😂

It does raise a useful point though...

Business travel and personal travel are not always the same thing when it comes to your accounts. Some travel costs may be allowable when they are genuinely for business, but that doesn’t mean every trip, meal, hotel or taxi can automatically go through the books.

The key thing is to keep clear records and be honest about the purpose of the trip. Was it for business? Was it personal? Was it a bit of both? If you’re not sure, it’s always better to ask than guess.

At Indigo, we help clients understand what they can and can’t claim, without the accountant-speak or the awkward “but Indie said it was fine” moment later.

Safe travels, Indie. We’ll expect your receipts on return. 🐼

What a lovely surprise from one of our clients. 💐

A huge thank you to Mark for sending these beautiful flowers and such a thoughtful card to Teresa.

It’s always appreciated when a client takes the time to say thank you, and gestures like this really do mean a lot.

We’re very lucky to work with such lovely people.

Indie is currently investigating whether flowers count as office snacks. 🐼😳

The Autumn Budget is coming, which means the headlines, predictions and “what might happen next” conversations are already starting. 👀

It can be tempting to react to every rumour, especially when tax, savings, pensions, property or business decisions are being discussed. But until the Chancellor stands up on 28 October and confirms what is actually changing, a lot of it is still speculation.

Our advice?

Keep an eye on the Budget predictions, but don’t panic. Don’t make rushed decisions based on headlines alone. And if something is announced that could affect you or your business, please get proper advice before taking action.

At Indigo, we’ll be watching the Autumn Budget and what it may mean for our clients. Once the confirmed details are available, we’ll help explain the important bits in plain English.

Indie is also monitoring the situation closely, although mainly for bamboo-related policy changes. 🐼

Team Indigo did it! 🐼

Yesterday, we completed the 20km Horsham Matters Charity Walk, and we’re very pleased to say everyone made it to the finish line. 🏁

It was a brilliant day supporting a charity that does such important work in our local community. Horsham Matters provides vital help for local people who are facing difficult times, including food bank support and practical assistance when it’s needed most.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and thank you so much to those who have already donated. We’d love to make one final push for donations, so if you’re able to support Team Indigo and help Horsham Matters continue their amazing work, our JustGiving page is here:

Indie is currently claiming he did the full 20km too, but we’re still checking the evidence as he hid for this photo! 🐼

A lovely surprise for Teresa as she’s received a letter from the Chartered Institute of Taxation commemorating a very special milestone, marking her long-standing membership of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT). 👏

How time flies when you’re having tax fun!

It’s a lovely recognition of Teresa’s experience, commitment and many years spent helping clients make sense of the tax world.

Congratulations, Teresa. The team are very proud of you. 🤩

Why is your tax return just like a panda? 🤔

🐼 It looks harmless, but ignore it and it’ll bite. That sweet, innocent-looking tax return can turn feral if you leave it until the last minute!

🐼 It takes longer than you think. Pandas spend up to 12 hours a day eating bamboo. Sorting out your receipts, invoices and expenses can feel about the same, especially if they’re still stuffed in coat pockets and gloveboxes.

🐼 It’s much less stressful with the right care. A calm environment, a spreadsheet or two, and someone who speaks panda (that’s us) can make all the difference.

Your tax return deserves better than last-minute panic and some bamboo. If you’d rather tackle it panda-style, with a sense of calm and a lot less chaos, getting it done in plenty of time, please get in touch. 💬
