Can't ask for any better than that ⭐️

Being an accountant is about so much more than accounts and tax.

In the last couple of months alone, I've helped a business work its way out of a three year mess, guided a client through a new business opportunity, supported a business owner exploring an eventual exit and reviewed a business plan for someone looking to purchase a farm.

Some of the most valuable conversations I have with clients happen before there's even anything to put through the accounts.

It's about having someone who understands your business to talk through the idea, challenge the numbers, look at the risks and help you make an informed decision.

That's the kind of relationship we have with our clients.

September always feels a little bit like a business New Year to me.

For me, it feels even more like a fresh start because, coincidentally, Nava's trading year starts on 1st September too.

I've got lots planned for Nava over the next few months, but I'm also taking some time to look at what I want to achieve before the end of 2026 and where I want the business to be heading into 2027.

It's a really good time as a business owner to ask yourself:

What did I want to achieve this year?

Am I actually on track?

And what needs my attention over these final four months?

You don't have to wait until January for a reset.

How amazing to be a finalist for the Sub36 Awards 2026 ⭐️

It feels good for another organisation to recognised how far we have come and what we are trying to achieve!

Next stop, an interview with the panel ... wish us luck!

Halfway through the year already… 🤯

It's easy to think that January is the only time to set goals, review your business or make changes.

But why wait?

A calendar doesn't determine when you can improve your business.

Whether it's reviewing your pricing, getting on top of your cash flow, understanding your numbers or simply taking a step back to see what's working (and what's not), any time is a good time to reset and refocus.

I think regularly taking time to reflect on what's gone well, what could have gone better, and where to focus your energy next is just as important as setting goals in the first place.

This one's a good reminder for business, for life, for anything you've been putting off.

You start. Then you get better.

So many business owners wait until they feel "ready" before making a change, having a difficult conversation or starting something new. The truth is, that feeling of readiness rarely comes first.

Attended the Lancashire Funding Summit last week.

Loads of useful contacts in the room covering debt and equity funding options, brilliant for any of my clients exploring financing for growth.

And a reminder that finance isn't a sign of failure, it can be one of the most powerful tools for growing your business. The key is getting the right advice at the right time.

If you're a business owner thinking about your funding options, it's worth having a conversation sooner rather than later. That's something I can help with.

One of the most common things I hear from business owners is that they've been unhappy with their accountant for a while but just haven't done anything about it.

The good news? Switching is much simpler than most people think.

Your new accountant handles everything — no awkward conversations, no disruption to your business.

If it's been on your mind, this might be the nudge you needed.
