Your accountant shouldn’t just tell you what happened last year.

A set of accounts can tell you what happened.

How much you made.

How much you spent.

How much tax you owe.

But that’s only part of the picture.

A good accountant should also help you understand what those numbers mean for your business now.

Where are your profits going?

Are your margins healthy?

Are you taking too much money out of the business?

What tax bills are coming?

And what should you be thinking about before making your next big decision?

Your accounts shouldn’t just be something you look at once a year.

They should help you make better decisions throughout the year.

That’s where having the right accountant can make a real difference.

It’s always good to hear that we’re getting it right.

For us, good accounting isn’t just about getting the numbers right. It’s also about making things easier for our clients.

Clear answers when they have questions.

Advice they can actually understand.

And support they can rely on when they need it.

So when a client takes the time to tell us they’ve had a good experience, it means a lot.

We’re grateful for the feedback and, more importantly, for the trust our clients place in us to look after an important part of their business.

By the time your accounts are finished, most tax planning opportunities have already passed.

A lot of business owners wait until their accounts are prepared before thinking about corporation tax.

They see the profit.

They see the tax bill.

Then they ask:

“Is there anything I could have done?”

By then, there may not be much you can do.

Tax planning works best while the year is still happening.

Regularly reviewing your numbers gives you time to understand where you stand, put money aside and make decisions while you still have options.

It might mean considering investments in the business, reviewing your spending or simply knowing what tax bill you’re building towards.

The biggest tax surprise is often finding out too late.

Don’t wait for your accounts to tell you what happened.

Know your numbers while there’s still time to act.

If you're working from home more often, here's a question worth asking:

Are you actually claiming for it?

A surprising number of business owners aren't.

If you're using part of your home to run your business, you may be able to claim home office expenses. For some, the simple flat rate works perfectly. Others prefer to put in a bit more admin to maximise the claim.

Neither approach is "better". It depends on what makes sense for you.

What you don't want is to miss out simply because no one told you it was an option.

The difference isn't always about finding clever tax-saving strategies. Often, it's making sure the basics haven't been overlooked.

How much tax do you actually pay as a limited company director?

It’s not always as straightforward as looking at your salary.

As a director, there are different things to consider when taking money from your company, including salary, dividends and the tax implications of each.

And as your business grows, the way you pay yourself can become increasingly important.

So how does it all work?

We’ve broken down the key things limited company directors need to know, including how different types of income are taxed and what to consider when deciding how to take money from your business.

Has your business outgrown your accountant?

As your business grows, your accountant’s role should probably grow with it.

Here are 3 things to think about:

1. Do you actually understand your numbers?

Your accounts shouldn’t leave you wondering what the figures mean or where your money is going.

2. Are you making big decisions without financial input?

Hiring, increasing prices or taking more money from the business can all have financial and tax implications.

3. Is your accountant only focused on compliance?

Getting the accounts done is important. But you should also have someone helping you think about tax, profit, cash flow and what comes next.

Your accountant should do more than tell you what happened.

They should help you understand what it means for the business.

If this sounds familiar, send us a DM and let’s have a quick chat.

Your business is making more money. But are you?

It’s easy to look at growing sales and assume you’re doing better financially.

But as the business grows, so can your personal spending.

A bigger turnover can mean a bigger car.

More profit can mean a bigger house.

A better year can mean more holidays, more spending, and more money being taken out of the business.

And before you know it, the business is making significantly more money, but you don’t actually feel much wealthier.

That’s lifestyle creep.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the rewards of a successful business. The important thing is making sure you’re not taking so much out that there’s nothing left to build with.

Money retained in the business can give you:

→ A stronger cash buffer

→ More room to invest and grow

→ Greater financial security

→ More options when opportunities come along

→ A business that creates long-term wealth, not just short-term income

So don’t just ask how much your business is making.

Ask how much of that money are you actually keeping?

Are you paying yourself strategically, or simply taking what’s available?

“They only call when they want paying.”

That’s what a potential client said about their accountant.

And it stuck with us.

Because if the only time you hear from your accountant is when an invoice arrives, that’s not support. It’s just a transaction.

We see it differently.

We’re part of the team, not just a service in the background.

That means:

– Advice when decisions matter

– Proactive input throughout the year

– Honest conversations, even when it’s not about billing

Sometimes that even means telling a client not to spend money with us yet.

Because trust isn’t built at invoice time.

It’s built in everything that happens between them.

If you’re not getting that level of support, it might be time for a different kind of conversation.

For some businesses, that's entirely possible.

When your accountant understands your business, keeps your accounts up to date, and plans proactively, you don't have to wait until year end to find out what you owe.

Instead, you can:

✔️ Budget with confidence.

✔️ Set money aside gradually.

✔️ Avoid unexpected tax bills.

✔️ Make better decisions throughout the year.

The earlier you know your tax position, the more options you have.

Good tax planning isn't about guessing what your bill might be.

It's about using the information you already have to stay one step ahead.

Many business owners don’t price too high.

They price too low.

And it feels fine at first.

Work comes in, calendar fills up, things look busy.

But over time, it starts to show up differently:
• You’re working harder just to stay level
• Certain clients feel more demanding than others
• Profit doesn’t match the effort going in

Pricing isn’t just a financial decision.

It shapes the type of business you end up running.

In a recent review with a client, we adjusted pricing by just 10%.

Nothing dramatic on paper but the impact on profit was close to 50%.

Not because they did more work.

But because the work finally reflected the value being delivered.

The shift wasn’t just numbers.

It was confidence in what they were charging.

We see this a lot.

Pricing decisions that were made early on, carried forward without review.

Sometimes the biggest improvement in a business isn’t more clients.

It’s making sure the ones you already have are properly priced.
