When you work with an independent adviser, the advice you get isn't shaped by what a particular provider wants to sell. It's shaped by what's right for you, across the whole market.
That distinction matters more the more complex your financial situation becomes. If you'd like to understand what independent, chartered advice looks like in practice, our Insights page is a good place to start.

Money conversations as a couple can be tricky β different attitudes to risk, different ideas about retirement, and life that doesn't always go to plan.
Our latest blog post looks at how financial planning works when you're doing it together β the questions worth asking, the moments that tend to prompt them, and what good advice looks like as a team.

A heads up if you use a Cash ISA...
A change worth knowing about: from April 2027, the Cash ISA allowance for under-65s will fall from Β£20,000 to Β£12,000. The overall ISA allowance stays at Β£20,000 β but the remaining Β£8,000 would need to go into a Stocks and Shares ISA to use it in full.
If you've always defaulted to cash, this is probably the nudge to have a proper look at your options. The 2026/27 tax year is the last one where the full Β£20,000 can go into cash β so there's no rush, but there is a deadline worth knowing about.

Summer tends to be the time when financial decisions are put off. Thereβs always something else on β school holidays, a break, a busy spell at work.
But itβs also actually one of the better times to take stock. Markets have moved, the political landscape has shifted, and the new tax year is already a quarter of the way through. If your plan hasnβt been reviewed since spring, now is a good moment to check in.

Tempted to pause your investments when the news feels unsettling? You're not alone, though it might not be the move you think it is.
We've written about why keeping going through uncertain periods is usually the smarter call, what pound cost averaging actually means in plain English, and what to do if cash is piling up in a savings account.

Why your regular investment habit matters most at times of uncertainty
Watching the news lately β energy prices, inflation, political uncertainty at home and abroad β it would be understandable if you were feeling uneasy about your investments. And you're not alone. Markets are unsettled, and it's natural to wonder whether now is the right time to keep going, or wh...

This morning, our Galashiels office at McHardy Private Wealth hosted its first client event at Brew in St Boswells β and weβre delighted to say it was a great success.
We were pleased to welcome Peter Duncan, Founding Director of Message Matters, who delivered a highly engaging presentation on the current political landscape following the recent election. His insight and experience within communications, government relations and public affairs sparked some excellent discussion amongst clients and guests.
We were also joined by Marshall Docherty and Elliot Dixon from Quilter Cheviot, alongside our directors/financial planners Stuart Johnson and Richard Fletcher, giving clients the opportunity to connect with the wider team supporting their financial planning and investment journey.
A huge thank you to Brew in St Boswells for hosting us and for the fantastic coffee, cakes and hospitality throughout the morning. With the lovely weather weβve been enjoying, it was especially nice to see clients able to sit outside, relax and enjoy the atmosphere after the presentation.
Most importantly, it was wonderful to bring clients together in such a relaxed setting, catch up face-to-face and hear such positive feedback from everyone who attended.
Weβre already looking forward to hosting more events like this in the future.

Unsettled by what's happening in the markets? You're not alone.
The most important thing in uncertain times is usually to stay the course - and to talk things through with someone who understands your situation.
