🐔 “Can I put chickens through the books?”
Yep.
That is genuinely one of the best questions I’ve ever been asked by a client.
And yes, they meant actual chickens. 😂
Which brings me to this…
How comfortable are you with your accountant?
Could you ask them anything?
Even if you think the question might be ridiculous?
Even if you’re not quite sure how to explain it?
Even if there’s a chicken involved? 🐔🤣
Because I genuinely think that’s how the relationship should be.
Your accountant gets to see some pretty personal stuff — your income, your spending, your business decisions, sometimes even the slightly random things you’ve bought and are wondering whether you can claim.
So you should feel like you can ask the question.
And no, I’m not going to tell you whether the chickens were allowable… 😉
Because the answer wasn’t a simple yes or no.
And that’s exactly the point.
Tax and accountancy aren’t always about ticking a box and following a one-size-fits-all rule.
It’s about understanding you, your business, what you’re trying to do and all those little nuances in between.
So go on…
