**π― GRAPHIC HEADLINE: βBank Holiday Incomingβ¦ Is Your Cash Flow Ready?β**
The August Bank Holiday weekend is almost here. βοΈπ¦
For many of us, that means an extra day away from work.
But for some small businesses, bank holidays can also mean something else:
**Payments slow down.**
Customers are away. Decision-makers aren't in the office. Invoices that were going to be paid βat the end of the weekβ suddenly drift into September.
Meanwhile, your own bills don't necessarily take the weekend off.
It's a useful reminder of why **cash flow management matters just as much as sales**.
Before heading into the long weekend:
π· Check which invoices are outstanding.
π© Chase overdue payments now rather than next week.
π
Look at payments leaving the business over the next couple of weeks.
π Make sure you know what your bank balance needs to cover.
Then switch off and enjoy the Bank Holiday knowing you've done what you can.
Running a successful business isn't only about earning money.
**It's also about making sure the money arrives when you need it.**
Have a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend from everyone at **Taxave**! βοΈ

Your diary is full.
The phone keeps ringing.
You're working longer hours.
Customers keep coming.
Business must be booming... right?
Hopefully.
But **busy and profitable aren't necessarily the same thing**.
It's surprisingly easy for a business to become busier while its margins quietly shrink.
Costs increase.
Jobs take longer.
Discounts creep in.
Prices haven't been reviewed for two years.
Small expenses gradually become bigger expenses.
And because you're so busy actually doing the work, nobody stops to look at the numbers.
That's why regular financial visibility is so important.
Sometimes the most valuable question you can ask isn't:
**βHow can we get more customers?β**
It's:
**βAre we making enough from the customers and work we already have?β**
Your accounts shouldn't simply tell you what happened last year.
Used properly, your financial information can help you make better decisions **today**.
At **Taxave**, that's the kind of conversation we want business owners to be having.
25/08/2026
It's probably one of the most common questions accountants hear. π
**βCan I put this through the business?β**
And unfortunately, the answer isn't always a simple yes or no.
Business expenses generally need to meet HMRC's rules, and whether something is allowable can depend on **what you've purchased, why you've purchased it and how it's being used**.
Something that is perfectly legitimate for one business might not be allowable for another.
That's why relying on what your mate, someone on Facebook or another business owner told you can sometimes be an expensive mistake.
And the opposite problem happens too.
Some business owners are so worried about getting things wrong that they **don't claim legitimate expenses they're actually entitled to claim**.
Neither approach is ideal.
Our advice?
**Ask.**
A quick question now is far better than discovering later that you've claimed something incorrectly β or unnecessarily paid more tax because you didn't claim something you legitimately could.
At **Taxave**, there really is no such thing as a silly accounting question.
Well... we've heard a few interesting ones. π
But we'd still rather you asked.

Five hours.
It doesn't sound like much until you think about what you could actually do with it.
You could follow up those enquiries sitting in your inbox.
You could spend time with existing customers.
You could work on your marketing.
You could finally tackle that idea you've been putting off.
Or perhaps you'd simply **finish work earlier and spend the evening doing something you actually enjoy.**
Yet many business owners lose hours every month sorting receipts, updating spreadsheets, checking transactions and trying to work out whether they've recorded everything correctly.
There's a point where doing everything yourself stops saving money and starts costing you **time**.
And your time has value.
Professional bookkeeping and accounting support isn't simply about handing over paperwork.
It's about giving you back some of the most valuable currency a business owner has:
**Time. β°**
So here's today's question:
**If someone gave you an extra five hours every month, what would you do with them?**

π¨ **BUSINESS MYTH**
*"I don't need to worry about tax yet. I'll deal with it when the bill arrives."*
Technically, you can.
Financially, however, it's rarely a great strategy.
One of the easiest ways to remove stress from running a business is to remember that **not every pound sitting in your bank account belongs to you**.
Depending on your circumstances, some of it may ultimately be needed for VAT, Income Tax, Corporation Tax or other liabilities.
Spending first and worrying about the tax later can create a nasty shock when payment time arrives.
A better habit?
π Understand roughly what you're likely to owe.
π Put money aside regularly.
π Keep your bookkeeping current.
π Know when your major payments are coming.
Suddenly, the tax bill isn't a terrifying surprise.
It's simply a planned business expense.
At **Taxave**, we believe good accounting should help you replace financial surprises with financial confidence.
And that's a much nicer way to run a business.

You've probably heard the saying before β but there's a reason it has stuck around.
A business can be incredibly busy, generate impressive sales and still struggle financially.
Why?
Because **turnover isn't the same as profit β and profit isn't the same as cash in the bank.**
Imagine your business invoices Β£20,000 this month.
Sounds great.
But then there are materials, wages, subcontractors, software, insurance, vehicles, VAT, tax and all the other costs involved in actually generating that Β£20,000.
And if several customers haven't paid their invoices yet, your bank balance might tell a very different story again.
That's why understanding your numbers matters.
Don't judge the health of your business simply by how busy you are or how much you're selling.
Look at the bigger picture.
π What's your actual profit?
π· What's your cash position?
π
What liabilities are coming up?
π§Ύ What money is still owed to you?
At **Taxave**, we're here to help business owners understand the story behind their figures β because good decisions start with good information.
13/08/2026
Thereβs a common misconception that an accountant is simply there to submit forms to HMRC and make sure everything is filed on time.
Thatβs certainly part of the job β but good accounting support should deliver far more than that.
π‘ It should help you understand what your business is actually doing.
π· It should help identify legitimate costs and allowances you may otherwise overlook.
π It should give you clearer information when you're deciding whether you can afford that new equipment, take on another employee or invest in growth.
π
And yes β it should make sure those important deadlines don't suddenly appear out of nowhere!
At **Taxave**, we believe the real value of having professional accounting support is having someone in your corner who understands the numbers and can help make them understandable to **you**.
Because ultimately, they're not our numbers.
**They're yours β and they should help you run a better business.**
