Accountants Chester — AI + Self Assessment: use it, don’t rely on it.
AI is great for organising receipts and decoding jargon. But it can misapply UK rules. We step in for: trading allowance vs actual expenses, payments on account, director salary/dividends, landlord rules, CGT, and residency/foreign income.
Need a quick human review before you file? Phillips & Co — Accountants Chester.

Payments on account: pay less if your income is down.
For Self-Assessment tax returns, HMRC usually takes two payments on account (31 Jan & 31 Jul) based on last year’s bill. If your income this year is lower (fewer contracts, rental voids, more PAYE, time off, one-off gains gone), you may be able to reduce January’s payment — or claim a refund if you’ve overpaid.
Do now:
• Check YTD profits/rental income and estimate this year’s bill
• Submit a reduction via your HMRC account (SA303)
• Keep notes/evidence for your estimate
• If reduced too far, HMRC charges interest on any shortfall
Phillips & Co — Accountants Chester since 2012. Fixed fees, plain English.
