The most powerful force in investing isn't necessarily performance. It could be time.

Compound growth is often described as earning returns on your returns.

In simple terms:
📈 Your money grows
📈 Those gains stay invested
📈 Future growth is then applied to a larger amount

The effect may seem small at first, but over years and decades it can become significant.

That's why starting early often matters more than starting with a large amount, and why consistency can be more important than trying to time the market perfectly.

Whether you're saving for retirement, building long-term wealth or investing for future goals, compound growth can play a powerful role in helping your money work harder.

Our latest article explains how it works and why time is one of an investor's greatest assets.

Inheritance Tax is catching more families out, often because of avoidable planning mistakes.

Families paid a record £8.5 billion in Inheritance Tax in 2025/26, and receipts are expected to keep rising.

Some of the most common issues include:

• Not using available nil-rate bands properly
• Overlooking the residence nil-rate band
• Misunderstanding lifetime gifting rules
• Failing to use regular gifts from surplus income
• Leaving assets in inefficient structures
• Starting estate planning too late

The difficulty is that many of these opportunities depend on acting early.

With property values rising and tax thresholds remaining frozen, Inheritance Tax is becoming relevant to a growing number of families.

Our latest article looks at the planning mistakes that can reduce the wealth ultimately passed on to loved ones.

You don’t need to predict the Autumn Budget. You need to be prepared for it.

With the main rates of Income Tax, National Insurance and VAT ruled out, attention is turning elsewhere.

• Capital gains.
• Property.
• Pensions.
• Inheritance.
• Investments.

Between now and Budget day, there will inevitably be plenty of speculation. But making financial decisions based on rumours can be just as risky as doing nothing at all.

Instead, this is an opportunity to understand your current position, make use of existing allowances where appropriate and identify where future changes could affect your plans.

Then, when the Budget is delivered, you can respond to what actually changes, rather than what was predicted.

Our latest article looks at the areas currently under the spotlight and what you may want to review.

Living together and being married can feel very similar day to day.

From a tax and estate-planning perspective, they can be very different.

💍 Married or in a civil partnership?
You may benefit from the IHT spouse exemption, transferable IHT allowances and ‘no gain, no loss’ transfers for Capital Gains Tax.

🏠 Cohabiting?
Those protections do not automatically apply, even if you have lived together for many years.

Without the right planning, an unmarried partner could potentially face an Inheritance Tax liability or have no automatic right to inherit under intestacy rules in England and Wales.

Wills, beneficiary nominations, life insurance and the way assets are owned can therefore become particularly important.

Our latest article explores the hidden tax differences couples should understand.

Two different routes. One long-term goal.

Active and passive investing both aim to grow wealth, but they go about it very differently.

Active investing relies on professional fund managers making decisions to try to outperform the market.

Passive investing aims to track the market instead, often at a lower cost.

Neither is automatically better.

The right choice depends on:

• how much involvement you want
• the level of fees you are comfortable with
• your attitude to risk
• whether you want broad market exposure or more targeted opportunities

And for many investors, the answer may be a blend of both.

Our latest article explains the differences and how each approach can fit within a wider investment strategy.

Where should you start if you’re ready to invest?

Not with the latest trend. Not with the fund everyone is talking about.

Start with three things:

1. Your goal
What are you investing for?

2. Your timeframe
When might you need the money?

3. Your attitude to risk
How much volatility are you comfortable with?

From there, options such as diversified funds, multi-asset portfolios, income investments and long-term growth themes can all be considered in context.

The best investment idea is rarely the most exciting one. It is the one that fits your plan.

Could your health today affect your retirement tomorrow?

New research highlights a significant divide in retirement prospects:

50% of adults whose physical or mental health affects their daily lives face pension poverty, compared with 27% of the wider population.

Health challenges can affect far more than our ability to work. Reduced hours, career breaks or moving into a lower-paid role can all mean lower pension contributions and fewer opportunities to save.

And the uncertainty continues into later life, with 67% of those living with health conditions lacking confidence that they could afford future care.

Nobody can predict how their health may change. But reviewing your pension, understanding your protection options and planning for different scenarios can help build greater financial resilience.

A successful investment portfolio isn’t built around finding the next big winner.

It’s built in layers.

- The foundation: investments spread across different markets and asset classes.
- The balance: a level of risk that reflects your goals, circumstances and investment timeframe.
- The opportunities: smaller investments in areas you believe could offer long-term potential.
- The protection: making use of tax-efficient wrappers such as ISAs and pensions where appropriate.

And perhaps most importantly, a good portfolio should evolve with you.

Our latest article explores the principles behind building a diversified investment portfolio and keeping it aligned with your long-term financial goals.

A Will isn’t really about what you leave behind.

It’s about who you leave behind.

Having a valid Will gives you control over what happens to your home, savings, investments and possessions. For parents, it can also record who you would want to care for your children if the unexpected happened.

Without one, your estate may be distributed according to intestacy rules rather than your personal wishes.

Writing a Will can help:
• Give your family greater certainty
• Make your wishes clear
• Appoint executors and guardians
• Reduce unnecessary complications at an already difficult time

Our latest article looks at why having a Will matters, whatever your age or level of wealth.
