Did you miss the 31 July tax deadline? If you forgot to pay your second Self Assessment payment on account for the 2025/26 tax year, you are now one week overdue and accruing interest from HMRC.

Here is what you need to know to protect your business finances and prepare for massive upcoming changes to the UK tax system.

1. Act Now: Overdue 2025/26 Tax PaymentCheck your account: Log into your HMRC online portal immediately to check your balance.Pay to stop interest:

HMRC charges late-payment interest daily, so settling the bill today minimises the extra cost.Set up a plan:

If you cannot pay in full, check if you qualify for an online Time to Pay arrangement.

2. Coming in 2029: Monthly Tax Payments:

The government plans to scrap the traditional two-payment system. According to reports, HMRC will transition self-employed individuals to a monthly payment system by 2029. Pay-as-you-go:

You will pay tax dynamically alongside the income you earn.Smoother cash flow: The goal is to eliminate massive, unpredictable twice-yearly bills.

3. The 2029/30 Trap:

Paying Two Years of Tax at Once, while monthly payments sound simpler, the transition period creates a serious financial bottleneck. Because the old and new systems will overlap, you will be required to pay two years' worth of tax between January 2029 and March 2030.Double budgeting:

You must save for your traditional lump-sum payments while simultaneously starting monthly payments.Early planning:

🐾 Meet Ozzy – Oval Accountants’ Newest Team Member! 🐾

Some of our clients may soon notice a new furry face around the office! We’d like to introduce Ozzy, who Kiera rescued a few weeks ago.❤️

Ozzy is Oakleigh’s new brother and is currently settling into his new life with us. Some of you who have met Oona in the office may notice he looks very similar to her, he is indeed Oonas biological brother! Due to what he has experienced in his past, he has a long road ahead, so we’re taking things slowly and giving him all the time, patience and love he needs to build his confidence.

For the time being, Ozzy will be taking life at his own pace while he learns that he’s safe and loved. Once he’s fully settled and comfortable, we look forward to introducing him to our clients and welcoming him into the Oval Accountants family.

We’re excited to watch Ozzy’s journey and see him flourish alongside Oakleigh. 🐶❤️

📢 Important Update: Xero Subscription Pricing

Dear Clients,

We wanted to let you know that Xero has announced an increase to its UK subscription prices, effective 1 September 2026.

The new monthly prices will be:

* Ignite – £18 per month
* Grow – £39 per month
* Comprehensive – £55 per month
* Ultimate – £70 per month
*Simple Plan at £7 is remaining the same

As your Xero subscription is included within your monthly billing with us, this increase will automatically be reflected in your monthly Direct Debit from September 2026.

These price changes are set by Xero and apply to all UK subscribers.

If you have any questions about your Xero subscription or would like to discuss whether you’re on the most suitable plan for your business, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – we’re always happy to help.
