So, you’ve hired your first team member—brilliant! But then you get a letter from The Pensions Regulator about "Auto-Enrolment," and suddenly the excitement turns into an admin headache. 🤕

By law, UK employers must put eligible staff (aged 22 to State Pension age and earning over £10,000 a year) into a workplace pension scheme and contribute to it.

Setting up the scheme, writing the mandatory letters to your staff, and calculating the monthly deductions sounds incredibly complicated, but you don't have to do any of it yourself. We manage the entire Auto-Enrolment process for our clients so they can get back to running their business!

Taking on your very first employee is one of the most exciting milestones in any business! 🎉

But it also means a new layer of HMRC red tape. Before their first payday, you need to officially register as an employer and set up a PAYE (Pay As You Earn) scheme. If the thought of tax codes, National Insurance, and payslips makes your head spin, don't let it ruin the excitement of growing your team. We run payroll for local businesses so you can just focus on training your new hire!

Speaking of huge milestones... our brand-new website is officially LIVE! 🚀

Happy Friday! 🍻 We get asked this question by local business owners almost every single week: "If I take a client out for a Friday pint or lunch to discuss a contract, can I claim the VAT back on the bill?"

The short answer? No.

HMRC is very strict on this. "Business entertainment" provided to clients, suppliers, or contacts is specifically blocked from VAT recovery. However, if you are treating your employees (like an annual staff party), you generally can reclaim the VAT!

Even though you can't claim the VAT back on a client lunch, sometimes it is still worth it for the relationship. Have a fantastic, restful weekend across Bromsgrove and Wales!

(P.S. We are still hard at work behind the scenes developing our new website—stay tuned!)

Did you know that when you register for VAT, you might be able to claim back the VAT on things you bought before you registered? 😲

It’s true, but HMRC has strict time limits depending on what you bought:

🛠️ Goods (like laptops, tools, or stock): You can look back up to 4 years before your registration date, as long as you still own the goods when you register (or they were used to make goods you still have).

💻 Services (like accountant fees, website design, or rent): You can only look back 6 months before your registration date.

Navigating these rules can result in a brilliant cash injection for your business! If you are thinking about registering for VAT and want to maximize your claim, send us a message.

A quick Monday reminder for our VAT-registered businesses! 📅

If your VAT quarter ended on September 30th, your deadline to file and pay is coming up on November 7th. That feels like ages away, but the end of October always sneaks up faster than you expect.

Instead of waiting until November 5th to frantically search for your purchase invoices, take 15 minutes this week to start getting your receipts into Xero or Sage.

If the thought of compiling your VAT return fills you with dread, send us a message. We take the paperwork off your hands so you can focus on running your business! ☕

(P.S. Development on our brand-new website is moving along nicely behind the scenes—we can't wait to share it with you!)

Happy Friday! 🎉 Did you know that as a Limited Company Director, HMRC actually lets you buy yourself a present?

It is called a "Trivial Benefit." You can use the company card to buy yourself (and your staff) a gift of up to £50, completely tax-free!

The rules:
🍷 It cannot be cash (but store vouchers, w**e, or a meal out are fine!).
👔 It cannot be a reward for your work or performance.
📅 Directors can claim up to £300 worth of these a year (max £50 a time).

So, if you fancy treating yourself to a nice meal or a bottle of something for the weekend, put it through the business! Have a fantastic, restful weekend across Bromsgrove and Wales!

(P.S. We are currently building a brand-new website with a dedicated section on tax-saving tips for directors—stay tuned!)

Did you know your Limited Company's bank account isn't your personal piggy bank? 🐷

It is so easy to accidentally pay for a personal expense on the company debit card. But if you take out more money than you've put in (or are owed in salary/dividends), you create an overdrawn "Director's Loan Account."

If you don't pay it back within 9 months of your company year-end, HMRC will hit the company with a massive 35.75% tax bill! 😱

We help keep your personal and business finances perfectly separated so you never get a nasty tax surprise.

(P.S. We are currently building a brand-new website with a whole section of resources for local directors—stay tuned!) 🚀

So, you’ve made the exciting leap and set up a Limited Company—congratulations! 🎉 But now comes the biggest question we get asked: "How do I actually pay myself?"

Unlike a Sole Trader, you can't just transfer money from the business account to your personal account whenever you like.

The most tax-efficient way most directors pay themselves is a mix of two things:
1️⃣ A base salary: Usually set just low enough so you don't pay Income Tax or National Insurance, but high enough to keep your State Pension qualifying years active.
2️⃣ Dividends: Paid out of the company's profits (after Corporation Tax), which are taxed at a much lower personal rate.

Getting the exact split right can save you thousands of pounds a year. We handle the math so you don't have to!

(P.S. We are currently busy developing our brand-new website to help local directors navigate this even easier—stay tuned!) 🚀

Happy Friday to all the hardworking tradespeople across Bromsgrove, Birmingham, and South Wales! 🛠️

Thinking about doing your own accounts this weekend? Here are 3 signs it is officially time to hand over the paperwork:

1️⃣ Your van dashboard has become a permanent filing cabinet for crumpled fuel receipts.
2️⃣ You are spending Saturday morning trying to figure out where your 20% CIS deductions went instead of watching the football.
3️⃣ The phrase "Construction Industry Scheme" gives you a mild headache.

You spend all week on the tools—don't spend your weekend on the spreadsheets. We specialize in untangling CIS and getting subcontractors their deductions sorted. Have a fantastic, restful weekend! 🍻

(P.S. We are currently building a brand-new website with dedicated resources for tradespeople—stay tuned!)

Let’s talk about the most awkward part of running your own business: chasing late payments! 😬

Whether you are a decorator in Bromsgrove or running a boutique in South Wales, sending that "just checking you got my invoice" text to a customer is always uncomfortable. But cash flow is the lifeblood of your business—you deserve to be paid on time for your hard work!

One of the best ways to eliminate this stress is by using cloud software like Xero or Sage. We help our clients set up polite, automated email reminders that chase late payers for them. It removes the emotion, saves you time, and gets the cash in your bank faster.

If you are tired of playing debt collector, send us a message to see how we can streamline your invoicing. 💷

(P.S. We are currently developing our brand-new website with even more resources on managing cash flow—stay tuned!)
