It can be hard to wrap your head around Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax.

The new rules are that Sole Traders & Landlords with qualifying income above the threshold must;
-keep digital records
-submit quarterly updates to HMRC
-complete a Final Declaration at the end of every tax year

You qualify for MTD if your combined turnover of trading and rental income is over £50,000 for the year to the 5th of April 2025. If you qualify you should've already submitted your first MTD update to HMRC.

We have an article about MTD on our website, including key dates, thresholds and filing rules.
