Almost every client I have came from someone kindly mentioning my name. πŸ’™

So if you know a business owner drowning in receipts, dreading January, or doing the books at 11pm on a Sunday β€” send them my way.

Tag them below or share this post. It genuinely means a lot.

New month, clean slate. Three dates worth knowing:

7 Sept β€” VAT return, if your quarter ended 31 July. 5 Oct β€” register for Self Assessment if it's your first time. Now β€” tidy up whatever the summer left behind.

Twenty minutes this week saves a weekend later.

Books closed, kettle on. β˜•

Wishing all our clients and every local business a proper restful long weekend β€” you've earned it.

Back to the ledgers on Tuesday.

Diary check for VAT-registered businesses.

If your VAT quarter ended on 31 July, your return and payment are due by 7 September.

The rule to remember: one month and seven days after your quarter ends. That's it β€” same rule, every quarter, forever.

Set the reminder now while you're thinking about it. Future you will be delighted.

September always feels like a fresh start, even decades after leaving school. πŸ“š

So β€” one money goal. Just one. Which is yours?

Comment A, B, C or D and I'll share the most popular one next week. (If it's D, my inbox is open. πŸ˜‰)

"I'm too small to need a bookkeeper." We hear this constantly. πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

Here's the thing β€” the smaller you are, the more every wasted hour and every missed expense actually costs you. There's no finance department absorbing it. It's just you.

Most of my clients are between one and five people. Sole traders absolutely count.

If you've been telling yourself you're not "proper" enough yet, you are.

August is lovely. August is also quiet β€” and quiet months have a habit of showing up in your bank balance around week three of September.

Five things worth doing before you switch off:

The one most people skip is the buffer. A single month of running costs sitting untouched turns a scary quiet spell into a mildly annoying one.

Save this for the next slow month β€” there's always another one.

Good luck to everyone getting their results today. πŸŽ“

Whatever the envelope says, it's one morning β€” not the whole story.

I say that because plenty of the business owners I work with took a route nobody planned for them. Apprenticeships. Retakes. A completely different subject to the one they started. Someone starting something of their own at nineteen with no idea what a balance sheet was.

They're all doing brilliantly.

So congratulations if today went exactly to plan β€” and if it didn't, you have far more options than today feels like. Both of those things are true.

From all of us Rachel's Bookkeeping. πŸ’™

Everyone files in January. Almost nobody has to.

Your tax year ended on 5 April β€” which means your Self Assessment can be done and dusted right now, while the deadline is still five months away.

Filing early doesn't mean paying early. You still pay on 31 January. What you get is five months of knowing exactly what's coming, instead of five months of wondering.

No queues. No panic. No January.

If you'd rather hand it over than face it, that's what I'm here for.
