The second Making Tax Digital quarter concluded on October 5. For sole traders and landlords with qualifying income exceeding fifty thousand pounds, the 2026/27 tax year represents the initial period during which these requirements are applicable.

HMRC has announced that penalty points will not be imposed for late quarterly updates during the 2026 to 2027 tax year; however, penalty points remain applicable for late tax returns.
