Another month gone and we are officially coming into Autumn now!

We still managed to squeeze in some sunny holidays though ☀️

Vicky enjoyed a trip to Greece and took part in the Vitality 10K 🏃‍♀️

Natalie was lucky enjough to squeeze in a trip to Olly Murphy's racing yard and LEGOLAND inbetween the chaos of building work!

Sue enjoyed a trip to St Ives with family and of course, Bailey and Cheddar 🐶

Frances made the most of the remaining lighter evenings with some trail runs and had various birthday celebrations.

October will be a busy one for us... Budget, MTD, Half Term.. 🎃 wish us luck!

Most people have no idea what their State Pension will actually look like until they get close to retirement. It takes a few minutes to find out.

Here's how to check yours:
Go to https://www.gov.uk/ and search "check your State Pension forecast"
Sign in (or set up) your Personal Tax Account using your Government Gateway ID
You'll see your forecast, how many qualifying years you have, and whether there are any gaps in your National Insurance record
It'll also tell you the earliest date you could claim, and what you'd need to do to boost the forecast if it's lower than expected

That's it. No paperwork, no phone calls, no waiting for a letter.

It's worth doing even if retirement feels a long way off. If there are gaps in your NI record, the earlier you know, the more options you have to fill them.

If a letter from HMRC lands on your doormat about gaps in your National Insurance record, don't put it in the "deal with later" pile.

HMRC is writing to self-employed people who worked between 2015 and early 2024, where their NI record may have gaps that could affect their State Pension. Up to 800,000 people could be affected.

Here's the bit worth knowing: normally there's a time limit on paying voluntary NI to fill old gaps. This exercise allows some people to fill gaps going back as far as 2015-16, which is well outside the usual window.

Before you do anything, check:
Your State Pension forecast
Your National Insurance record
Whether you actually have any missing years
Whether filling them would increase what you get
You can do all of this through your Personal Tax Account on https://www.gov.uk/

One thing worth saying clearly: getting a letter doesn't automatically mean you're missing out. Plenty of people already have enough qualifying years for the full State Pension, in which case paying more NI wouldn't add anything.

Frances captured every day of the month in a single second - the nursery run, the coffee, the client calls, the chaos in between. The small stuff that actually makes up a month.

We spend a lot of our time here talking deadlines and figures but behind the numbers is a team living normal, busy, slightly chaotic lives, just like our clients. Felt worth sharing.

Two directors, ten years into the business. One wants to retire early. The other assumed they'd carry on together for another decade.

Without a shareholders' agreement, that conversation gets complicated fast.
Who values the shares? Who can they be sold to? What happens to confidential client information the departing shareholder still has access to?

None of this is unusual. Retirement, ill health, a change of heart, they all happen.
The businesses that handle it well are the ones who agreed the process years before they needed it.

A shareholders' agreement won't stop these moments happening. It just means everyone already knows what happens next.

If you own a business with someone else and this conversation hasn't happened yet, now's a good time to have it.
