April 2026 brings some of the biggest shifts to our tax system that we have had for a generation. The annual year-end tax ritual always feels like a race against the clock, but this year it will also bring an inheritance tax shake up, a Companies House U-turn and the introduction of Making Tax Digital for some. For more on how to navigate the changes check out Calvin's article Navigating the 2026 Tax Shift in our bio.

Well, we didn't top the quiz table but at least Tom snaffled a great prize in the raffle! A yummy afternoon tea . This year's annual Brain of Bath once again brought out the best in local businesses from across the city to raise money for . The total topped £25,000 for the homeless charity, so we'll take that as a win! P.S. Well done to the the actual winners, Deloitte.

Pensions, ISAs, electric cars and even milkshakes have all taken a hit in today's Budget.
Here are the main takeaways in a nutshell:
£26bn in new taxes on the way
Income tax & NI thresholds frozen until 2030 → stealth tax on pay rises
Salary-sacrifice pensions hit from 2029 → higher NI costs
ISA allowance cut for under‑65s (£20k → £12k)
“Mansion tax” hits homes over £2m
Investment, dividend & rental income taxed more
Sugar tax expanded → bottled milkshakes & flavoured milks more expensive

Excuse the slightly glazed look, but the mulled wine was very good! Christmas has definitely landed where hosted a festive drinks and nibbles for its VIP members last night. Fab excuse to check out the refurbed guest suites - we were all really impressed by the massive showers and bathroom tellies! Great pre-Christmas catch up too with business chums Martin Clist from Alison Watson from (pictured left) Laura Cole from and Steve Jeffreys from Ignia, to name a few! Thanks for the invite.

This is the second year running we have sponsored the Positive Business Award and we really feel it's an important one to support. Last year’s winner Dave Southby, of Financial Planning, grew his business from a small team and made a huge difference — from school outreach to charity fundraising. You don’t need to be big to make a big impact but supporting to community that supports your business is a win/win. Our MD will be presenting the award at the finals next Thursday. Good luck to everyone taking part.
