If your business uses contractors, there is an IR35 change worth having on your radar now.

The company-size thresholds used for off-payroll working increased from 6 April 2025. Because business size is assessed using previous years, HMRC says the practical impact on IR35 responsibilities will not be felt until 6 April 2027 at the earliest.

Our August newsletter looks at what this could mean for businesses working with contractors.

“Can I put that through the business?” is a question most sole traders ask sooner or later.

The answer depends on what the cost is for and how it is used. Missing legitimate business expenses can mean paying more tax than you need to, while claiming the wrong things can create problems later.

This guide explains the common expenses sole traders may be able to claim, without drowning you in accountancy jargon.

Company director?

There is one piece of Companies House admin worth checking before your next confirmation statement lands.

Identity verification is now a legal requirement for directors and people with significant control. If you have not verified yet, it is better to sort it now than discover the problem when you are trying to file something.

Our August newsletter explains what you need to do and where to start.

Back to school usually means new shoes and getting everyone back into a routine. It can also be a useful prompt to think a little further ahead.

A Junior ISA lets families save tax-free for a child, with up to £9,000 able to be paid in during the 2026/27 tax year. The money belongs to the child and stays tucked away until they turn 18.
If you have been meaning to start saving for the longer term, our August newsletter explains the basics in plain English.
