HOW TO POSSIBLY PAY LESS INCOME TAXES OR MAYBE GET A REFUND ON YOUR TAX RETURN:
1. You can claim the amount the Tax Preparer charged you for the previous year.
2. Log in to your Federal Student Loan to find the amount of interest you can claim.
3. If you have a NS student loan, usually they send you the amount of interest in the mail, if not call them.
3. If you moved from another province to Nova Scotia to study, to a new workplace, or for self-employment, you may be able to claim moving expenses.
4. If you change address, it is in your best interest to fill out the form of the Canada Revenue Agency & send it to them AND contact the CPP/OAS Pension by phone if you have a pension . They do not pass on your new address to each other.
Canada Revenue Agency is in charge of your Tax Return and Service Canada is in charge of Pensions (CPP & OAS).
5. Hire a Tax Preparer that doesn't take a percentage of your refund.
6. You may be able to claim medical travel (40 km & over & meal(s) both ways) for you depending on kilometers. If you require someone to drive you for a medical procedure, then you might be able to claim their meal(s), too.
