A busy summer doesn’t always mean a profitable one. ☀️

Maybe sales were strong, your calendar was full, and money was coming in. So why doesn’t your bank balance seem to tell the same story?

That’s because revenue, profit and cash flow are three different things:

💰 Revenue is the money your business earns from sales.
📊 Profit is what’s left after your business expenses are deducted.
🏦 Cash flow tracks the money actually moving in and out of your business and when.

You can have a record month for sales and still feel strapped for cash if expenses have increased, customers haven’t paid their invoices yet, or upcoming tax obligations haven’t been accounted for.

As summer winds down, September is a great time to look beyond your sales numbers and check in on the bigger financial picture. A little clarity now can help you make smarter decisions as you head into the final quarter of the year.

Not sure what your numbers are telling you? Numberra can help you make sense of them.

💰 Reaching a new revenue milestone is worth celebrating! But as your business grows, your tax responsibilities can change too.

In Canada, once your taxable revenues go over the $30,000 small-supplier threshold, you may need to register for a GST/HST account and start collecting GST/HST.

The timing can be a little tricky because *when* you need to register depends on *how* and *when* you cross that $30,000 mark.

So, if business has been picking up lately, it’s worth checking where you stand before that milestone sneaks up on you.

Not sure if you’re getting close or what happens when you get there? We’re happy to help you figure it out.

📅 A friendly September reminder!

September always seems to sneak up on us... and so can tax deadlines.

If you pay your income tax by installments, your next payment is due September 15th.

Not sure if that’s you? If the CRA has asked you to make instalment payments, you can find your payment amount and details in your CRA account.

And if you’re wondering how much to pay, whether installments apply, or how to make those tax payments a little easier to plan for, we’re always happy to help.

A little planning now can mean fewer surprises come tax time. 😊

September often feels like a second New Year, which is an excellent time for a business financial checkup. 🍂

Before the fall gets busy, ask yourself:

• Are your books reconciled and up to date?
• Do you know which customers still owe you money?
• Have you set aside enough for tax and GST/HST?
• Does your cash-flow forecast reflect your fall expenses?
• Are your financial reports helping you make decisions?

If keeping accurate records is the problem, you may need bookkeeping support. If you need help interpreting the numbers, planning for tax or making strategic decisions, it may be time to speak with an accountant.

Not sure who does what? We break it down here:

Noticed a new name in your CRA account? 👀

As of July 2026, the GST/HST credit is now called the **Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit**.

If you already received the GST/HST credit and your situation hasn’t changed, you’ll likely remain eligible. There’s no separate application required. The CRA will continue determining your eligibility when you file your annual tax return.

A few things haven’t changed:
* The benefit remains tax-free.
* Payments are issued quarterly.
* Eligibility is based on your family income.
* Filing your tax return each year is essential, even if you don’t owe taxes.

The Hidden Cost of DIY Accounting: What Business Owners Don't Realize They're Spending 08/20/2026

Doing your own accounting can feel like a smart way to save money, especially when you’re building a business and watching every expense.

But what is it really costing you?

Add in potential errors, overlooked deductions, and financial information that isn’t up to date, and DIY accounting can become far more expensive than it first appears.

A reminder for Canadian families: the next Canada Child Benefit payment is scheduled for August 20.

CCB amounts were recalculated in July using information from your 2025 tax return. If your payment has changed, take a moment to review your CRA account and make sure your marital status, address, banking details and family information are current.

This is also a good time for a quick family budget check-in. Are your benefit payments supporting today’s expenses, an emergency fund or a longer-term family goal?

🍂 Is fall one of your busiest seasons or does business tend to slow down?

Either way, now is the time to prepare.

Start by reviewing what happened during the same period last year. Look at your sales, regular expenses, staffing needs and any seasonal costs that could affect your cash flow.

Then ask:

✅ Do we need additional inventory or staff?
✅ Are there slower months we should prepare for?
✅ Which large expenses are coming up?
✅ Are outstanding invoices being collected promptly?
✅ Does our current cash reserve provide enough breathing room?

A simple fall forecast can help you make decisions before cash becomes tight or identify opportunities to invest when business picks up.

You don’t need a perfect prediction. You just need a realistic plan that can be adjusted as the season unfolds.

Need help making sense of your numbers? The Numberra team can help you prepare for what’s ahead.

Planning a major equipment or facility investment for your B.C. business?

B.C. has introduced a new refundable manufacturing and processing investment tax credit. Qualifying Canadian-controlled private corporations may be able to claim 15% of eligible expenditures on certain new buildings, machinery and equipment acquired after March 31, 2026.

The rules include eligibility requirements, expenditure limits and potential repayment provisions, so it’s worth getting advice before (not after) making a major purchase.

Because this credit is limited to qualifying corporations, it also highlights a broader question many growing businesses eventually face: is incorporation right for you?
