August 🌴

This month was jam packed with activities, a stark difference from last August when I was in the throes of studying for my QAFP exam (I’m so glad that chapter is over).

Here’s what I got up to when I wasn’t online:

🎾 Went to the National Bank Open and saw Iga Świątek play (she’d go on to win the whole tournament!).
🎸 Saw Cameron Whitcomb play at HISTORY then sang karaoke with friends at a local dive bar (I sang Celebrity Skin by Hole).
📚Celebrated my friend LAMARA PAPITASHVILI | Author’s launch of her 3rd book “Et si savais tout”, which I can’t wait to read (and brush up on my French reading skills.)
🌴Went to Costa Rica on a last-minute trip with friends that was so fun I barely remembered to take any photos.
📖 Finished 8 books (bringing my total up to 37 this year).
💻 Hosted a catch up call with my Live Winter Wealth Building Blueprint for Canadians students to check their progress.

This summer has been one of my favourites, but with September just around the corner, that means it’s time to get ready for my busiest season.

I’ve got lots of speaking gigs, work travel, and some special projects I can’t wait to share with you!

What was your August like?

July ❤️

I’ll be honest, for longest time I hardly shared anything personal on here. I just stuck to financial content.

But I’m so much more than a money expert. I’ve got a life that I absolutely love. And it’s real. It’s not perfectly curated and I’m anything but a “lifestyle influencer”.

I rarely wear makeup off-camera. I’m a huge nerd. And the simple things in life are what make me the happiest.

Since I’ve been a bit quiet on here the past month, here’s what I’ve been up to behind the scenes.

🍗 Hosted a big backyard BBQ.
👯‍♀️ Visited a friend I’ve known for 20 years in Victoria.
🎂 Visited family and celebrated multiple birthdays in Vancouver.
📚 Finished 4 books (I’m up to 29 this year!).
💻 Worked with a number of new financial planning clients.
📸 Started and wrapped up some brand campaigns

This is also the first summer since 2020 that I haven’t been either studying or working on my book, so I’m taking full advantage of this extra time I now have and just soaking in as much summer as I can.

What’s your July looked like?

Life doesn’t peak in your 20s or 30s.

But growing up, I always believed that once you turned 40, you were “over the hill,” which meant it was all downhill after that. And as a woman, there was also this notion that at a certain point, I should stop sharing my age to avoid judgment.

Yeah, I’m not gonna do that.

I turned 40 a few weeks ago, and I’m damn proud of that.

Looking back, I can confidently say that I was still at basecamp in my 20s and just starting my hike in my 30s. My 40s are for when I finally hit my stride and can even stop and enjoy the view on the way up.

Even though time does feel like it goes by much quicker now compared to when I was younger, as I try to remind my financial planning clients in their 40s and up, you’ve still got decades to get to where you want to be financially.

It’s never too late to fix your finances, and with the right mindset and financial plan, your best years are still ahead of you!

Husband appreciation post for his birthday! 🎂

I met almost 19 years ago at a friend’s New Year’s party and pretty aggressively made him take my number.

Unlucky in love before that point, I figured I’d try something new and ask the guy out because he had the sweetest smile.

Best thing I ever did because I could have never imagined the life we’d build together.

Getting married. Moving cities. Travelling the world. Going back to school. Taking big career risks. Buying a home. And no matter what, being there for each other while at the same time allowing the other space and support to keep growing.

I rarely share anything about my husband on here because he’s honestly a pretty private guy, but for some reason he allowed me to post this so I’m gonna do it before he changes his mind.

So excited to finally get my hands on this!

I pre-ordered it but I had to wait til I came back from Italy to finally dive in.

I’ve known since the early financial blogging days of yore (like 2014 or earlier?) and even remember her first book The Broke and Beautiful Life that came out in 2015.

I know she put her heart and soul into The Ambition Penalty and I’m so proud to see that not only is it finally out in the world, it’s really good!
